This week on the podcast, I had the opportunity to chat with the owner of Continental Saddlery, Oliver Dusterhoff! Dusterhoff is originally from Germany but now resides in the United States with his wife, Heike. Alongside his wife, Dusterhoff has brought Continental Saddlery from Europe and has brought it over to the USA, where it is now produced in Ider, Alabama. Continental Saddlery is now a booming business that prides itself in being made in the USA.
In this episode, we chat about Dusterhoff's background, how he bought Continental Saddlery, the process of making a saddle, leatherwork, his advice to those looking to buy a saddle, the learning curves he has faced owning a business, advice he has for those just getting into the business, how saddles have changed over the years, and MORE!
We dive into the technical art of making a saddle and I know I learned a lot about the saddle craft, and I hope you will too!
