Olivia Potts: Grieving, from Courtroom to Le Cordon Bleu

Listen Later

On today’s episode, we’re joined by Olivia Potts. Olivia is baker, an award winning food writer and, author of ‘A Half Baked Idea: How grief, love and cake took me from the courtroom to Le Cordon Bleu’

She left a career at the criminal bar following her mother's sudden death, to retrain in pâtisserie and went onto write her first book, which won her both the Fortnum & Mason Debut Food Book awards and the Guild of Food Writers' Food Writer 2020.

Olivia talked to us so beautifully about the impact of her mother's death and her journey through grief in a way which was both raw, deeply powerful and humorous.

She is the cookery columnist for Spectator Life, writing their Vintage Chef column, and has written for the Guardian, The Telegraph, At The Table, the New Statesman and the Evening Standard. Olivia has also lectured on Brexit and the future of food at the Oxford Food Symposium.
