  • DRINK LOCAL WINE TWITTER TASTE-OFF
My third year podcasting the Drink Local Wine Twitter Taste Off, this year from Denver, Colorado. It will feature  two dozen of the state’s best wineries. Colorado’s wine history dates to the late 1970s, when the forerunner of Colorado Cellars opened. The number of wineries has increased 20-fold since 1990, reflecting the surge in enthusiasm for regional wine in the state. Colorado’s two AVAs include the Grand Valley in and around Grand Junction and the West Elks along the North Fork of the Gunnison. However, the largest concentration of wineries is along the Front Range east of Denver, expanding to many other parts of the state.   Drink Local Wine is the brain child of Wine Curmudgeon, Jeff Siegel, award-winning wine writer, and Dave McIntyre, wine columnist for The Washington Post, to promote local wine growers outside of the states of Oregon, Washington, and California, and give them the respect and attention they deserve. #drinklocal #colwine websites: http://www.drinklocalwine.com http://winecurmudgeon.com

  • CHYNNA PHILLIPS
Chynna Phillips, 90's pop music icon, is the only child of musicians, John and Michelle Phillips, of the famed "The Mamas and The Papas" group. In the late 1980's, Chynna, and childhood friends, Carnie and Wendy Wilson ("Beach Boys" Brian Wilson's daughters), formed  "Wilson Phillips," and in 1990, released their debut album. "Wilson Phillips" sold ten million copies worldwide, went to multiplatinum, and charted three Billboard Top 100 #1 singles, prompting Billboard's declaring them the best selling female group of all time, breaking the record previously held by "The Supremes." "Wilson Phillips" was nominated for 5 Grammy Awards, an American Music Award, and won Billboard Music Awards for "Hold On" and "Release Me," both written by Chynna Phillips.  Recently Wilson Phillips was featured in the hit movie, "Bridesmaids," and Chynna participated in the ABC hit, "Dancing With The Stars," while recording songs for the groups new album, "Dedicated," featuring a collection of songs written and made famous by their musical parents of "The Beach Boys" and "The Mamas and The Papas." within 12 hours of the release, it shot up to #5 on Amazon's Best Seller's Music List.  This month, "Wilson Phillips: Still Holding On" debuted on the TV Guide channel. The reality show features Carnie, Wendy, and Chynna, 25 years after their first single hit #1 on the charts. Now working moms, the cameras follow the three as they struggle to balance their musical pursuits, lifelong friendships, and family lives. Chynna has been married for 17 years to actor William (Billy) Baldwin.

  • MARCELA VALLADOLID
Marcela was raised to be passionate about food, having grown up around expert and traditional cooks in Tijuana, Mexico. Working at her aunt's cookgin school in Baja, Mexico, she realized she, too, wanted to pursue this growing love for food full time and enrolled in the Los Angeles Culinary Institute, and later graduated from the Ritz Escoffier Cooking School in Paris, as a classical French pastry chef. She went on to run a catering company and teach children about the culinary arts in Tijuana, and eventually parlayed her classical training and abilities to become a food editor at "Bon Appétit" magazine.  Hosting her own cooking show, on Discovery en Español channel, she earned a spot as a contender on "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart." In 2009, Marcela released her first cookbook, "Fresh Mexico: 100 Simple Recipes for True Mexican Flavor." Soon after, she landed her dream job as host of her own Food Network show, "Mexican Made Easy." The show debuted in early 2010 and films in San Diego where Marcela currently lives.   "Wine Curmudgeon," JEFF SIEGEL will also join us to talk about our favorite grape beverage and the upcoming Drink Local Wine Conference 2012 in Denver, where I will be doing the Art of Living show live for the "Twitter Taste-Off," for the third year.

  • JEFFREY SAAD
From the age of 13, Jeffrey Saad knew food was his calling. Working at the local diner behind his junior high school, he was hooked: "I flipped my first burger and in that moment I knew that food was going to be my life. I was completely inspired watching food transform into irresistible eating experiences."
After studying hotel and restaurant management at Iowa State, Jeffrey continued his studies at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, N.Y., and the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. A man on a mission, he dedicated late nights to learning the ins and outs of the food business, quickly gaining experience working in the kitchens of several restaurants and bakeries. While interning with Anton Mosimann in London, Jeffrey spent early mornings working with the pastry chef, learning how to prepare fine desserts and breads.
Ready to begin a business of his own, Jeffrey returned to California to open "Sweet Heat." Serving fresh and healthy Mexican-inspired fare, the restaurant was a hit. Jeffrey opened two others before moving on to become partner in charge of operations at "Pasta Pomodoro Italian Restaurants," working to open the first dozen of the 40-plus restaurants in the chain. In 2009, Jeffrey burst onto the national food scene after finishing as runner up in Season 5 of "The Next Food Network Star." Following his success on the show, he hosted "The Spice Smuggler" for FoodNetwork.com.
Jeffrey’s cooking borrows inspiration from his passion for fresh food and exotic spices, giving way to unconventional twists on classic dishes, like his seared scallop tacos with green chili chutney. But make no mistake, he will always remain loyal to traditional American fare, such as burgers, meatballs and his favorite, pizza.

  • CHEF THOMAS MCNAUGHTON
Thomas McNaughton may be young, but he has already had a long career in the culinary industry, starting with washing dishes at the age of 14. He graduated from The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), in New York, after taking a year off to extern at "La Folie" in San Francisco. The deepest connection for McNaughton comes from the hands of farmers, artisanal producers, and small productions within the neighborhood.

Since opening in 2009, "flour + water" has been named San Francisco Best New Restaurant 2010 by SF Weekly and was a finalist for 2010 James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant in the country, a 2011 finalist for Rising Star Chef, and recently named one of the Top 9 American Culinary Icons by Food & Wine Magazine.

  • CHEF HUGH ACHESON
You have seen Chef Acheson on television competing in Bravo's "Top Chef Masters," as a judge on "Top Chef" and also on "Just Desserts."  Born and rasied in Ottawa, Canada, he started cooking at a young age and decided to make it his career after realizing that academics weren't his forte. At age 15, he began working in restaurants after school, learning all he could. Today, his experience includes working under Chef Rob MacDonald, where he learned stylized French cuisine, wine and etiquette at the renowned "Henri Burger Restaurant" in Ottawa, and in San Francisco as the Chef de Cuisine with Chef Mike Fennelly at "Mecca," and later as Opening Sous Chef with famed Chef Gary Danko, at his namesake restaurant, where he discovered a love of the simple, pure, and disciplined.   Taking these experiences, Hugh developed a style of his own, forging together the beauty of the South, with the flavors of Europe, and opening the critically acclaimed "Five & Ten," in Athens in 2000. In 2007, Acheson opened "The National" with fellow Chef Peter Dale. Adding to his list of dining establishments, Hugh opened Atlanta-based "Empire State South," in the summer of 2010.   Hugh's first cookbook, titled "A New Turn in the South: Southern Flavors Reinvented For Your Kitchen," was released in October of 2011.   Also, Wine Curmudgeon, JEFF SIEGEL, will join us to talk about our favorite beverage.
