With the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo fully underway, today guest host Liz DiNovella takes to the airwaves for another sports edition of A Public Affair.

Together with Dr. Courtney M. Cox, she talks about a variety of Olympics news, including Simone Biles’ withdrawal from the team gymnastics finals, athletes and mental health, the debates around women’s uniforms, what it’s like competing in an empty stadium, and the NOlympics movement.

They also spend some time talking Wisconsin sports, including the Bucks’ historic NBA championship win this year and the latest Packers drama, plus what it’s like being a fan in the time of COVID.

Dr. Courtney M. Cox is assistant professor in the Department of Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies at the University of Oregon. Her current book project focuses on women’s basketball around the world. She teaches courses on sport and society, including one on the Olympics. Dr. Cox is also the co-director of The Sound of Victory, a multiplatform project dedicated to investigating the relationship between music, sound, and sports.
