Today we're looking at Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a sixpence in your shoe... Wait, that's not right. We're looking at something stolen, something purple, and something cursed. Way back in the mid to late 1800's, during the Indian uprising against the British colonization, a colonel stole a magnificent purple rock from a temple. His life almost immediately fell apart. Years later a scholar came into possession of this same rock. His life, too, fell apart. The rock in question is the Delhi Purple Sapphire, and it's cursed. Good thing it sits safely behind some glass at the British History Museum.

Today we're going to pretend I didn't just take like half a year off, and we're also going to look at one of the most notorious cases in Canadian history: Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka. The Ken and Barbie killers, the Scarborough Rapist, the... plethora of other nicknames which ultimately don't matter. 

Bernardo and Homolka raped and murdered several young girls in the late 80's and early 90's, one of those victims was Karla's sister, Tammy. And because it's important, two other victims were Leslie Mahaffy and Kristen French. Always try to remember the victims over the criminals, please!

Way back in 1947, the most infamous unsolved case in American history happened. A young woman was found in a vacant lot in Los Angeles, that young woman was Elizabeth Short, a young woman with hopes and dreams of becoming a Hollywood starlet. Before the investigation could even get going, the media dubbed her the Black Dahlia, and the rest is history.

Gary Hilton, AKA The National Forest Serial Killer was a man who stalked the national forests in the Carolina's and Florida in the early - mid 2000's. He was convicted of killing four people, however the number is suspected to higher as he was caught in his 60's. It's very unlikely that somebody like him started killing so late in life, and given the nature of his crimes, and the location of his hunting grounds, it would be very difficult to determine his exact kill count.

Back in '01, September of '01... The 10th of September '01 to be exact, a young aspiring doctor went missing. For those of you who were alive during the time know what that means, and the rest would have learned about it in history class. That fateful September the world changed, and with it lives changed. No more so than the Philip family. Sneah went out on the night of the 10th, and was never seen again. Naturally many assumed she perished in the 9/11 attacks, but it took years for that acknowledgment to happen. Even though her official cause of death was due to the attacks, there is still some speculation about what really happened to her the night before the 11th. Trust me when I say not everything was what it seemed.

This is one of those weird cases. A girl walked home alone, about a ten minute walk, only she never made it home. The girl in question is Melanie Ethier, she was 15. After watching a movie at her friend's house, she was never seen again. The town of New Liskeard and the surrounding communities had a total population of about 11,000 people, so crimes of this nature weren't all that common. The investigation lead nowhere. And to this day, there has been next to no evidence or leads as to what happened to Melanie Ethier.

If there's one story with a moral out there, it's the one of Ken McElroy. He was a bully, well, he was more than that. He was human refuse. From skirting jailtime for some serious offences, to attempted murder, Ken did it all. And because of his deeds, he paid the ultimate price. His murder was never solved, but that wasn't even the shocking part of this case.
