John has transformed the Australian Olympic Team over his 30 year career, building a legacy that will see Australia compete in Tokyo as the world's third-largest team, with around 480 athletes.
John shares his favourite memories of the 2000 Games, including Cathy Freeman lighting the cauldron in the Opening Ceremony, and looks ahead to securing the Games for Queensland in 2032.

Ian talks about his epic first day in Sydney: winning gold in the 400m freestyle event, and again in the 200m freestyle relay later that day. Ian also recalls the vivid memories of the crowd screaming his name, his close call with a broken zipper before the relay, and how he beat the fastest swimmer in the world at that time, Gary Hall Jr. In this episode, you’ll also find out why Thorpey sets his alarm for exactly 4:17am.

Rechelle also talks about her once-in-a-lifetime experience as the athletes’ oath reader in 2000, and the moment she decided to ‘throw in the hockey stick’ in front of thousands of fans and over 100 fellow Aussie Olympians.

Grant tells Nat that he felt like a rockstar in Sydney, with the 100,000-strong crowd on Darling Harbour cheering for him after the race. Grant also talks about his win with the men's 200m freestyle relay team, and the determination and focus that’s needed to overcome failure and build back self-belief.

Naomi McCarthy (née Castle) - Naomi McCarthy (née Castle) made history as part of the first women’s water polo team to ever win OLYmpic gold. Women’s water polo was introduced to the Games in 2000, and in this episode, Naomi tells how she and her Aussie Stingers teammate Yvette Higgins stole the gold from the USA in the final two minutes of the game!

Naomi talks about the intense week of competition, as well as the aftermath: everyone including the coach jumped (or was pulled!) into the pool, and Naomi spent the rest of the Games celebrating in Sydney and supporting her fellow Aussie athletes who were still to compete. Nat tells Naomi that watching the Stingers win gold from her Bondi hotel room inspired her to do the same with her beach volleyball partner Kerri Pottharst the following day.

So, it was fitting that Laurie was officially given the role of Australian Olympic Team motivator mascot in 2000! In this episode, Laurie shares some of his favourite stories from Sydney, like how (with a bit of help from the Prime Minister) he was able to sneak the whole Aussie team in to watch Cathy Freeman win gold!
Laurie talks about the training and preparation it takes to be a champion, as well as the important life lessons that can be learned through sport. He also shares some poetry, and his passion for promoting water safety.
