On this On the Horizon podcast episode, Derrick sits down to talk about his trip to South Africa with Colton Bagnoli, a hunting and outdoor writer.

Colton talks about how he became a writer for guns and hunting, and how others can get into that field of work. With a past in building firearms, it was a simple choice for Colton to start writing about the outdoors.

Colton took down a Zebra while in South Africa with our 22 Creedmoor, so he talks about that hunt and how the caliber does against a larger animal. He is constantly hunting at different places and encountering all different kinds of animals.

Splitting Image is not your normal taxidermy business, they are doing mass amounts of taxidermy that are extremely detailed and creating mounts in ways never heard of.

This podcast was a bit difficult to record since Pieter is all the way in South Africa, so apologies for the delays and awkward breaks in the video.

Derrick is heading to South Africa soon, so he asks Pieter questions about hunting down there, specifically for Kudoo cows and Baboons. Baboons are very intelligent animals and Pieter talks about how he has to outsmart them and his shooting techniques for taking them down.

Pieter was one of the first people we sent Stiller's new Wombat action to and he built a 6.5 PRC Sherman short mag. Him and Derrick chat about rifle components, especially the barrels, and building.

Michael also talks about our Core+ rifles and how they differ from our truly custom rifles and our Core rifles. Core+ rifles are when a rifle has a modification done to it that is not standard to that rifle, but standard to another, like changing the fluting on a barrel or changing a color. Similar to this, we are offering what we call Reserve rifles, which is exclusive to our dealers. Dealers can create their own line of Core+ rifles that are reserved specifically for them.

Grayson is a native Texan from Nacogdoches, where he grew up with a love for both baseball and hunting. From playing baseball in the spring to hunting in the fall, Grayson has continued his passion for both sports and has seen himself go above and beyond in both areas. Currently, Grayson is in his first season as the starting pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles and continues to do some Texas hunting in the off season.

Grayson and Derrick discuss what it takes to care for a herd and how to grow monster bucks. Grayson talks about his upcoming Mexico hunt for a mule deer, hunting with his wife, his first deer at 7 years old, and how baseball and hunting season have the perfect rotating schedule with each other.

Hear all about the commonalities between Derrick and Grayson, including knowing a lot of the same people in the outdoor industry, owning German Shorthaired Pointers, their love of duck hunting, and rooting for the Texas Aggies.
