Coffee Table Fables

On the poop deck with the Pied Piper

Listen Later

Tonight on Coffee Table Fables, Meghan discusses Davy Jones Locker! An idiom for the bottom of the sea: the state of death among drowned sailors and shipwrecks. It is used as a euphemism for drowning or shipwrecks in which the sailors' and ships' remains are consigned to the depths of the ocean. Afterwards, Amanda tells us about the Pied Piper: the titular character of a legend from the town of Hamelin, Lower Saxony, Germany. The legend dates back to the Middle Ages, the earliest references describing a piper, dressed in multicolored clothing, who was a rat-catcher hired by the town to lure rats away with his magic pipe.
