Welcome back to ‘On the Record … with MAH’ – the student-led podcast by the School of Media, Arts and Humanities at the University of Sussex.
In part two of this series, in this episode, we discuss the political and economic oppression inflicted on the LGBTQ+ community, particularly in Egypt. In the case of Sarah Hegazi; an Egyptian human rights activist who committed suicide whilst in exile in Canada on 14.6.2020. She claimed asylum there after being arrested, detained & tortured for raising the LGBTQ+ flag at a concert in Cairo 2017. We discuss the upcoming anniversary of the Egyptian LGBTQ+ activist and celebrate her legacy with a close friend of hers, Sara Alshief along with Isobel Elrick. We discuss triggering topics of suicide and homophobia, if anyone is triggered by the issues discussed there are helplines below.
As this episode is the last in our second season we wanted to thank everyone and anyone who has been involved in this season and we hope to see you soon.
