American Christianity is a unique form of Christianity with a deep history in the race problem in America. There are real strains and struggles experienced by African American women within American society. Considering marriage and family is no light matter for African American women for a host of reasons. In this session Dr. Walker discusses the historical moral situation of African American women in America. 

African Americans have unique lived experiences in American society. Christian religious groups and the Black Church contend marriage is the best option for establishing lifelong fulfilling relationships, childbearing, the economy, and the nation. These groups and institutions argue cohabitation is a bad option for a host of reasons.
