Once Upon A Turnbuckle

For a few years of his childhood, at least, June meant one thing for Chris - the promise of seeing another WWF 'King of The Ring' crowned! What was it that drew him to this event in particular? What made WWF at the time turn a house show concept into it's own PPV in 1993? And why did the importance of the tournament itself decline all too soon?

For this episode, Chris welcomes back another previous guest - Andrew Lacelle - to discuss what used to be one of the most exciting events of the year, sharing their views and memories on the best and worst of the WWF's 'King of the Ring' event, from the Hart brothers laying what should have been the strongest of foundations, to the mistake that was King Mabel, the birth of 'Austin 3:16' and, of course, THAT 'Hell In A Cell' moment!

In this episode, Chris finally gets to tick off one of his 'bucket list' guests as he has the privilege of sitting down to talk with Tom Fleming, one of the unsung heroes of 90s wrestling. Aside from working for DC and Marvel comics, Tom was also an artist and costume designer for the WWF/E in the early-90s.  

Tom talks about his most famous work, which includes designing the costumes for superstars such as Razor Ramon, Adam Bomb, 1-2-3 Kid, Papa Shango & Bob 'Spark Plugg' Holly, as well as the iconic artwork used to promote major PPV's Survivor Series '93 and Royal Rumble '94!  

Also hear Tom share memories of backstage altercations with Mr Perfect and the Ultimate Warrior, as well as an example of some fan mail received regarding Papa Shango's costume!

And now for something a little different...

Sam Houston may be the son of the great Grizzly Smith, and the brother of fellow legends Rockin' Robin and Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, but he has his own story to tell. And boy, do you need to hear it! Chris has the honour of talking to Sam in one of the most unique interviews he has conducted to date. This isn't just about a wrestling career, but about a life lived to the fullest, from the brightest lights to the darkest of days.

Hear Sam discuss growing up within a famous wrestling family, how he earned the respect of those he worked with, the lengths he went to in order to settle a real-life backstage rivalry with Angelo Mosca, through to when he found himself at his lowest and how he was saved the moment he tried to end it all. Also, hear how Sam now dedicates his days to connecting with his fans and finding ways to help those around him who need it most.

Oh, and to top it all, Sam recalls how he was almost eaten by cannibals...twice!

News, professional wrestler Paul Neu was certainly a larger-than-life character and a very memorable part of Chris' own childhood as a young wrestling fan. In a special extra episode this week, Chris has the honour of welcoming wrestling legend 'Cowboy' Scott Casey! 

From his humble beginnings in 'Funk country' Amarillo, Texas, to his early days in SCW, working with the Von Erich's in WCCW and then on to the bright lights of the WWF in the late-80s, this man sure has some stories to tell! Which is a great thing too, as we discuss Scott's autobiography 'One Last Ride' which he co-authored with Captain's Corner's own (and previous guest), Nick Masci!

Listen in as Scott recalls stories of Lou Thesz, Dusty Rhodes, Dory Funk Jr, training Booker T & Stevie Ray and - of course! - Chris asks him about being part of Survivor Series '88!
