In the crossing of the Red Sea, we see a picture of the spiritual life. God's people are in a place of despair. God led them so that he can be made known, and so that they can experience his power first hand. In his deliverance of them, God does what is needed for them to be saved. They merely trust him, and obey him. In response, God's people stand in awe of God, trust him, and delight in him.
