As His holy nation, Israel was given God's law so that they may know the way to live. However, as sinners, the only way that the Israelites could commune with a holy God was through the altar sacrifices that were offered regularly, which find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ.

God led them so that he can be made known, and so that they can experience his power first hand. In his deliverance of them, God does what is needed for them to be saved. They merely trust him, and obey him. In response, God's people stand in awe of God, trust him, and delight in him.
