Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
1 Corinthians 13:1
When we use our gifts, but don’t love,
we make noise but not music.
And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:2 (ESV)
If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:3
Motive > Mastery
Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside…
but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous…
but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
Matthew 23:27-28
Love without gifts is not transferable.
Gifts without love is not transformational.
When we use our gifts without love:
- mutual resentment
- emotional burnout
- mediocre outcomes
When we use our gifts with love:
- deep fulfillment
- genuine joy
- true excellence
Love promotes spiritual health in you
and genuine harmony with others.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
