The catheter is a necessity after the prostatectomy as the urether requires time to heal. You may require to wear one from anything from a week to a month. Medically they are a fantastic invention, actually wearing one is something else. Who knew you could have a number of adventures with one.

With the PSA reading over the threshold of 3.5, I now need the full spectrum of tests to confirm if it is indeed prostate cancer: the flow test, ultrasound, MRI scan and getting the very 'special' offer on - every mans favourite - the digital rectal examination.

My long lost dad re-surfaces after being absent for more than 37 years. Reconnecting with him gives me an unknowing hint of what is to come. What about men visiting doctors? Unless it's hanging off, bleeding profusely or stopping us from working men are typically reluctant to go to see them.  I had some memorable experiences with visiting the doctors and why do they make it so hard for us to visit them and get a blood test...
