In the spring of 2006, 27-year-old medical student Brian Shaffer was last seen walking into a bar. Surveillance would not capture him leaving, and after wandering off his friends lost track of him. 

All calls to Brian's phone were going straight to voicemail and he was nowhere to be found. He was scheduled to fly to Miami with his then-girlfriend on spring break, and when he failed to show up at the airport, his family knew something was very wrong. 

What was supposed to be a fun night of friends and drinking has turned into one of the most mind-boggling unsolved mysteries of all time.

Is it a disease at all? And why has it only impacted a single rural village in the world?

On September 20, 2014, a 37-year old mother of three is not feeling well and asks her husband to pick her up from work. Today we are easing you into the weekend with some mysteries that don't involve a murder or a missing person. Despite that, these are still head-scratchers and fun to think and learn about. 

In November of 1987, someone hijacked the signal for 2 television stations in Chicago in what is arguably one of the most iconic instances of video piracy ever. Who was behind the Max Headroom Signal Intrusion? 

In 1981, residents on Thornton Street in Birmingham England were tormented by stones being continously pelted at their homes, causing severe damage and obviously, severe anxiety. Despite drastic measures by the police to locate the source of this, the rock attacks continued for THREE YEARS with no culprit ever being found. Was it a dedicated vandal, or something of the paranormal nature?

In 2009, strange posts referencing an obscure restaurant that wasn't open anymore started to appear online as comments on various posts throughout the web. The posts increased in volume and spanned over the course of 5 years, all praising "Captain Kutchie and his famous key-lime pies". Who was behind these strange posts and more importantly-why?

19-year old Jason Jolkowski was called into work early on June 13, 2001. At around 10:45 AM he helped his brother pull some trash bins from the curb into the garage and then set off on the eight-block trek from his home to the high school where a coworker had arranged to pick him. 

Jason failed to show up at the high school and was never seen again. What happened in less than 30 minutes in the span of eight blocks that caused a seemingly responsible and happy teenager disappear?

By all accounts, Rey Rivera was loving husband, brother, and son who was happy with life. In May of 2006 after receiving a phone call, Rey abrubtly left his home. After several days of his family searching for him, he was eventually discovered when they noticed a hole in the roof of the south wing of the Belvedere hotel. It was under the hole where investigators located Rey's body.

21-year-old Elisa Lam wanted to get out of her bubble in Vancouver, Canada to explore the world. She started her journey traveling through California and in late January of 2013 she checked into the infamous Cecil Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. When she didn't call home to check in with her parents one day, they contacted LAPD. 

What would follow would be alarming displays of bizarre behavior, and a horrifying discovery in the hotel's water tank. Elisa's case has gained international attention and has been the subject of intense scrutiny since it occured. What happened to Elisa Lam?

Suzanne Streeter and Stacy McCall had just graduated high school on June 6, 1992 in Springfield, Missouri. After spending the day and night at various graduation parties, Suzie and Stacy made the last minute decision to stay at Suzie's house that she shared with her mother, Sherill Levitt. They arrived there at about 2:15 AM and signs showed that they had removed their make-up and changed clothes. At some point during the night, all three women would vanish. 

What happened to Suzie, Stacy, and Sherill, and how was it that three adult women could vanish without a trace in the middle of the night from one house? 

Judy Smith was a 50-year old nurse who was loved by her family and friends in 1997. She traveled to Philadelphia, PA from Boston to join her husband at a work conference. While her husband was working, she would explore the city. When she fails to turn up at the hotel to meet her husband for a cocktail party, he scours the city but finds no clues to her whereabouts. 

Judy would be located 5 months later, but the discovery would only lead to more questions. She was found stabbed to death and decomposed halfway up the side of a mountain in North Carolina, over 600 miles from where she was last seen. 

Why was Judy in North Carolina? Did she go willingly or was she taken by force? On this last episode of One Minute and Forty-Three Seconds of 2020, special guest Sohaib and Megan try to make sense of this puzzling case.
