Years ago, I heard a gifted Bible teacher say, “God allows some things to happen to us in order to do something in us in us so He can do something through us.” At first I was offended. To my way of thinking difficulties did not come from God. But upon further reflection I am convinced she was right. The key word here is “allows”. Both Joseph of Old Testament fame and the apostle Paul are classic examples of how God uses circumstances to further His eternal purposes.
“Now I want you to know brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel.”
Lord Jesus, give us the faith to believe that You can take whatever happens to us and use it to advance the gospel. In Your holy name I pray. Amen.
