One More Thing with Jaye & Robert episodes

  • Coming Out Muslim (with Wazina Zondon)

Following our interview with Rev. Micah Bucey last season, today we talk to educator and storyteller Wazina Zondon about queerness and Islam! She tells us about growing up a queer Muslim girl who wore capes emphasis on the capes), and then we discuss what the Quran actually says about queerness (hint: not much.) She also introduces us to some cool queer-friendly places of Islamic worship and tells us about her performance piece Coming Out Muslim: Radical Acts of Love.

This episode contains brief mentions of pedophilia.

  • One Last Thing 7/6: Tessa Thompson, Tom Daley, Dustin Lance Black, Bebe Rexha (?), Teddy Geiger, and Sc*rlett Joh*nsson

This week, we brave the elements (and a lot of birds) to bring you our Pose recap, featuring a cooking tip from Jaye, followed by a discussion of, of course, Tessa Thompson coming out. Then we venture into the world of people being mad at Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black for... using a surrogate? Things only get more bizarre from there as we try to figure out who Bebe Rexha is and why she hates the girls from RuPaul's Drag Race, and after a brief interlude of good news about our old friend Teddy Geiger, we address the story of the moment: America's least favorite Asian trans man, Scarlett Johansson.

This episode contains brief mention of sexual harassment.

  • Jaye and Robert's High School Reunion (with Alan Cumming)

Well, the time has finally come: it’s our interview with the one and only Alan Cumming. We talk to him about Instinct, where he plays the first openly gay lead role on a procedural drama, his sex scenes in After Louie, and some of the gay icons he’s gotten to meet and work with throughout his career. We also reenact the first conversation we ever had (about his hit 2010 film Burlesque) and bring Alan’s #1 fan, Jaye’s mom, on to take a quiz about his career. Don’t worry, we do mention the made-for-TV version of Annie. Instinct airs Sundays at 8/7c on CBS!

  • One Last Thing 6/29: Live From Chicago

To quote The Light in the Piazza, we're on vacation! After another edition of our weekly Pose recap – including a GIVEAWAY and a brief sidebar about our ideal Angels in America cast – we discuss Jonathan Van Ness getting political on the Queer Eye press tour, the two new queer Marvel characters, and Lakeith Stanfield's apology for his homophobic rap. Plus, the Sports Illustrated Body Issue gets gay, Peppermint becomes the first openly trans* person to star on Broadway, and Robert had some feelings about pride this year (Jaye didn't go.) THIS IS YOUR WARNING THAT WE SPOIL THE FINALE OF RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE!!! Be sure to listen all the way to the end, because we have a ~big announcement.~

  • Call Me by Your Carol
This week we discuss the two biggest gay movies of the last few years: Carol and Call Me By Your Name. From the age gaps to the road trips, these movies have more in common than you ever thought. Plus, we discuss the hottest-button issue of the last few months: straight actors playing queer roles! Or at least we try to, but then Jaye gets sidetracked by talking about Carrie Brownstein’s cut scenes from Carol. Stay tuned to the end to hear us act out scenes from the movies, which goes exactly as well as you expect.

  • One Last Thing 6/22: Amandla Stenberg, Jason Mraz, Love Simon, Jurassic World, and Buzzfeed

We triumph over sound issues this week to bring you a recap of episode 4 of Pose, as well as discussions of two celebrities who came out this week – or 1.5 celebrities, because Jason Mraz is being coy. Someone who did NOT come out is the lesbian character whose exclusively gay moment (tbt) was cut from Jurassic World, but that doesn't stop Jaye from thinking she's hot. We close out the week reporting our* findings from our** survey of 880 LGBTQ Americans. Why we weren't asked to participate, we'll never know.

  • LGBToo

This week's episode is perhaps our most topical of all time – so topical, in fact, that we waited until the last minute to record it so we could include any breaking news. That's right, we're talking about #MeToo, Times Up, and the way the movement against sexual harassment has impacted (or not) the LGBTQ+ community. We start out with Kevin Spacey, and it only goes downhill from there. We talk Jeffrey Tambor, George Takei (?), and then spiral out harder than we ever have before while talking about Jaye's nemesis Rose McGowan. Stay tuned for our new miniseries Roserial, coming as soon as NPR starts returning our calls.

*CONTENT WARNING: We made a point not to include any descriptions of sexual harassment or assualt in this episode in the hopes that it wouldn't trigger anyone, but we do discuss the victims and the aftermath, as well as a culture of sexual harassment and assault. If you would like to tune in to a part where we are just joking around and not talking about harassment and assault at all, join us at 43:45.

  • One Last Thing 6/15: Cameron Esposito, New Flag, Assassin's Creed, AHS8

We begin this week with a recap of episode 2 of Pose, which we enjoyed but also raised a lot of logistical questions for us. Then we touch on Cameron Esposito's new standup special, which raised $10,000 in one day for RAINN, a new flag by Daniel Quasar that we love, and Assassin's Creed, which is apparently now the gayest video game on the market. And just when you think it's over, some BREAKING NEWS comes to us live on the air!!! Never a dull moment in the One More Thing studio!
