what an ending tissue please
lovey story and very sweet. I like tbe reader, this was at times hard to listen to so sad - at times not your feel good listen to, more a Dickens with some sex story.
The story that wouldn't end.
This book was aptly named. One sweet moment is right. Everything else was downright depressing.
NOT what I expected... or desired...
If you enjoy historical romance novels that are well-written, but lighthearted and predominantly happy, this one is NOT for you. 95% of the novel is spent recounting tragic, deeply disturbing, even sexually depraved events, steeped in a sense of loss and inescapable sadness. The ending -- a rather distant commentary on social progress -- is, to me, not worth the emotional turmoil the reader has, by that point, borne. Also, the cookie that is tossed the reader in terms of a - somewhat - happy ending is utterly insufficient.
That being said, the book probably accomplishes what it sets out to do, (though with a bit of a sledge hammer approach). It is well read -- excellent narrator. I just wished fervently that I hadn't bought it. Way too disturbing/depressing!
