PETIT'S PALE PRODUCTION PROVOKES A POWERFUL TRUTH

Chris Petit's masterly new novel enhances his standing as one of the greatest modern writers of historically themed fiction. He draws eerie relevances with the present by reminding us of the horrors lurking behind every human heart and this story of the conspiracies and murders behind the existent genocide of the holocaust is a revelation. A lesson in respect

When the brash old men who hang out in front of the store become a nuisance to the female customers.. the new owner gives his son a lesson in couth by not tolerating the disrespect. I really enjoy listening to John Isaac Jones stories. All have a message about morals and a person's character.

The narration of this book is well done. This book does involve adult situations with some mild language. I requested this book in exchange for my honest review. I do recommend this and John's other book's.

Grumpy old men in the 1950s

Set in a small town in the 1950s, the tale is told through a boys eyes as he eagerly helps out at his fathers store. Its an old general store as we dont see too many of these days. While this tale certainly had its share of quaintness to it, I found that it also had some depth. The goings-on witnessed by this lad over a span of years give him some life lessons to contemplate as an adult.

Mr. McAdams is the leader of this little group of 4 or 5 old retired men that like to hang around the store playing dominoes or checkers and swapping stories. They use questionable language from time to time and arent always the most congenial group. Mr. Hill is the meanest of the bunch despite having a wife and son in the area. Mr. Gibbs and Mr. Wiseman (spelling?) are some of the followers making small appearances in the tale.

The old men in and of themselves arent such an issue but they treat the general store like it was their own private club house (ash trays & spittoons yuck!) and they dont take kindly to those that try to barge in on their little fun. Theres talk of politics (1956 was an election year), cursing in front of the ladies, and guffawing at customers who inadvertently drop things on their heads while reaching up to that top shelf. While there are a few ladies that appear or are mentioned, I cant recall any of them talking. Perhaps the school principal had a line and I know one of them gave an embarrassed cry. Still, it would have been nice to have at least one real female character.

I like how the store owner tries several approaches to working with the old men, who do buy from the store. Hes doing his best to walk that narrow path of making his customers happy but also keeping certain standards. His first appeal, to avoid naughty language in front of the ladies, is grudgingly acquiesced to. However, that turned out to be the first straw that would eventually break the camels back.

I really didnt expect things to go as they did with the old men but I did like being surprised. The story ends with a little reflection from the now grown son and a little followup with one of the grumpy old men. All told, its an interesting little piece that shows off the authors skill at character development through small scenes.

Right Where You Left Me was an enjoyable read - one that I could enjoy the company of the characters and the quick paced plot. I think the subject matter was unique for a young adult novel - much like the author's first book. As the book progressed it was fun to realize that I was reading a whole different story than I thought I had set out to read in the beginning of the book.

An absorbing, fast-paced novel, exploring love and misunderstanding between a mother and a daughter.

About a year ago, I had the great pleasure of reading Calla Devlin's first novel, Tell Me Something Real. It was an emotional roller-coaster of a book! I loved it. So when the publisher offered an advance reader's copy of the author's next book, Right Where You Left Me, I couldn't resist.

Although these books very different, they both explore the complicated relationship between mothers and daughters. With foggy San Francisco as a backdrop, the compelling story of Charlotte's missing father pushes her to confront her challenging relationship with her mom. If her dad doesn't come home, can Charlotte and her mom continue as a family? The sense of impending doom is palatable.

Okay, I am very biased here. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, so any book set here is one I will be partial to. But the author's descriptions of specific neighborhoods are so vivid, I must assume that she has lived in San Francisco at some point in her life. There is simply too much love in her descriptions to have been made up.

A true five star read

The characters were amazing as was the story and how the lives were interwoven. The secrets that were slowly revealed and the heartbreak that the people dealt with during the tragedy of betrayal, by their siblings, their spouses, their parents, their Church. Ultimately, they must decide to move forward and forgive, or hold onto the mistakes of the past and allow it to destroy the future. They was great sadness and a sense of some ends finally coming altogether for some of the characters after too many tragedies in their lives. I loved this book, and I am having a very hard time giving a review without a spoiler. I d not often but books because there are so many free ones available, but I am so glad that I bought this one and read it right away. Great story, wonderful characters, emotional material.

Lovely story

I loved the care with which the author created fully developed characters in a story that could have been taken straight from history. She made the reader care about the poor women whose babies were taken from them as if the women were our own family or friends. Even though time could not be rewritten for these women, the story ended in a logical and peaceful manner. I really enjoyed the book.

Very good read.

Very good read. The tension between two sisters immediately grabs the reader. The reason they haven't spoken in years piques the interest and when revealed is shocking. The arrival of a woman from America with her own sorrows and trials adds new interest and her story too is intruiging. The climax and ending are both satisfying and thought provoking.

Not very good

I bought this book based on physically seeing it rather than my usual method of reviews, blogs or website recommendations. It's one that seems to be advertised everywhere and I liked the Irish angle and it was available (at that point) on Kindle cheaply. What I wasn't expecting was for the writing to be so poor.

Wow! This book is awesome! I enjoyed reading this book very much! I had a hard time putting it down. One thing I liked about the book, there wasn't a lot of characters, so I had a easy time remembering them all. Really worth reading! Very amazing companion to the book that i absolutely love. I love this audiobook. The characters are well developed, the book is well written and held my attention from the very beginning. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

C S Bills does it again!

I have loved every one of CS Bills books. Each series is unique, never a re-heating of an old theme. Her books are relevant to real life, and her characters are so real they become friends. I miss them when the story is finished. I'm looking forward to the next book in the Remember Sarah series, and the agility series. I love that there is mystery without murder, thrill without evil, and excitement without gore or porn. What a refreshing change!! I LOVE you, CS Bills! Please keep your wonderful books coming!

Great Book!!

C.S. Bills is a new author to me. I was attracted to this book as I am a dog lover and have considered getting into agility myself. I thought this book was so much more than a story about a pup named Breeze! There is heartbreak and self discovery, forgiveness and so many other emotions. The story is realistic and so well performed. Wendy Rich Stetson has a very good style of narration. She is able to put so much emotion into her performance. One can feel the anguish, the happiness, the letting go, and more. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I was voluntarily provided with this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher, and/or narrator.

A new beginning

Breeze, by C.S. Bills, is the uplifting story of a fresh start for Kate. Adopting Breeze, a border collie, and getting involved with dog agility training was just what Kate needed to move on from her pain filled past and make a fresh start.

Wendy Rich Stetson does a wonderful job narrating. She really brought the characters to life for me.

My Musings

Wow! What an awesome read. This book is so far from my usual read, and I didn't have any idea how I would feel since there isn't even a romantic element to this story. This is a tale of grief, friendships, new beginnings and embracing what life sends your way.

I loved the healing Breeze brings to Kate. I've never heard of agility training, but it was the best thing that could have ever happened for Kate.

A very good little book!

Good things come in small packages. This little book is a very good one. It wonât take long for you to read it but the long term benefits are truly profound. Using easy to understand sentences Ross Newkirk shares an approach that will help people simplify a concept that has given many people a lifelong struggle. Getting rid of the non-essential âbaggageâ that weighs us down is so important to personal happiness. Unsubscribe carefully outlines the path to that happiness. Letting go of counterproductive thoughts and activities is easier said than done but this little book spells out a plan of action that everyone can implement. Once you start removing the nonessential you will be amazed how quickly you will see other areas that can be opened up so you can concentrate on what is really important to you.

The choice is yours. Rated 5 stars. I loved this book.

Sometimes the simple things we put off until a later time, but those things should be the things that we do first. To get them off our to do list. As this story by Ross Newkirk shows his readers the secret that was discovered by Keith and Beth to unsubscribe to what they did not want and to subscribe to what they did want. One of my favorite lines from the book. âEveryone has the same amount of time each day. Itâs what we choose to do with it thatâs important.â After reading this book I know that I need to make the changes to improve what I want and unsubscribe to those things that need to be let go of. What are some of the things that each of us need to unsubscribe to in our daily lives? Things that are in our way and make us unhappy. Ross has done an excellent job of sharing this simple, but effective way of improving our environment. Choose to make your life fun again. Get a copy of Unsubscribe and re-read and share it with your family and friends. I have rated this one a solid 5 stars. I would love to read more works by Ross Newkirk.

An easy to read book that reminds us how to get rid of the things that are holding us back

I love when I am able to read a book of "fiction" and find some great lessons that I can use for myself and share with others. That is exactly what I get from the book UNSUBSCRIBE by Ross Newkirk.

You are able to meet a man named Keith who has been able to learn a valuable lesson that he is not only able to apply at home but take him back to the workplace.
