    Publisher's Summary:
A hit-and-run accident sends the lives of both driver and victim into unforeseen trajectories in a family drama set against the backdrop of the sexual revolution and 1970s California.
On the morning that Nina and Asher Teller's marriage falls apart in their Southern Californian kitchen, their young daughter, Hannah, is the victim of a hit-and-run accident that will leave her leg in a cast for much of the next decade. Nina's next husband introduces her to nudism and soon suggests they plunge further into the sexual revolution of the 1970s. Meanwhile, the remorseful driver, Martin, tries to bury his dark secret under the flashing lights and ringing bells of Las Vegas.
The Nakeds is an absorbing, darkly comical story of love and desire, of forgiveness and the unforgivable, and the truths we sometimes hide underneath our very own skin.

The Nakeds is wonderful! I couldn't put it down
The Nakeds is wonderful! I couldn't put it down!! The novel alternates effortlessly between being incredibly funny and emotionally poignant. The story is driven by the characters. Lisa Glatt puts us in their heads and makes us understand why they do what they do, even when their actions seem inexplicable and impossible to understand. The book succeeds because Glatt is a master of characterization. Her characters in this book are complex and finely drawn; they are flawed, certainly, but their flaws are always in proportion, never grotesque or caricatured. Indeed, it's their flaws that make the characters both interesting and relatable. I found myself relating--at one point or another--to all of the characters, even the ones I didn't like very much. I've only been done with the book for a few hours and I already miss them all terribly! The Nakeds is one of those rare books that is equal parts entertaining (an honest-to-god page turner) and smart! It does exactly what fiction is supposed to do--it entertains us and makes us more empathetic. Do yourself a favor and read this book!!
    The Nakeds
I enjoyed this, but I think it could have been better. It was too short for a story that spanned a decade. Most of the book is told from up above, giving us an overview but not taking us down into the characters' lives often enough. When it did take us down, like Christy's post-pardum depression scene, for instance, it was very good. In those scenes, I felt like the author was showing rather than just telling what was going on, unlike in the majority of the novel. The biggest missing scene for me was Nina's first visit to the nudist resort. There were quite a few chapters from her point of view, and we were told that she so looked forward to her visits to the nudist resort that it was an important part of her life. It seems to me that a detailed scene of her first visit, her initial thoughts and reactions, and why she loved it so much, would have enhanced the reading experience. Instead, the first time we readers are shown the resort rather than just told about it, is Hannah's first visit, and we only feel her awkwardness and discomfort.
That being said, I did enjoy reading The Nakeds. I felt for the characters, especially Martin's self-loathing, Nina's frustrations, and Hannah's struggles. The ending felt real, like the characters were driving the action rather than being manipulated by an author. I also liked that we are not told exactly what Martin does when he recognizes Hannah.

    Without a Trace
Loved every minute of this story, with its twists and turns. The narration was excellent. Looking forward to reading my next Lesley Pearse book, am truly hooked.
    Good but not her best
The story while absorbing was not her best, and a little predictable at times. One twist though, kept me on my toes!!!!!
    fab.
Not my most favourite lesley Pearse book not the usual. I can't stop listening situation I often find myself in however still enoyable.
    Wonderful
The story kept you alert all the way through sorry when it ended. I always love Leslie Pearce books and have read everyone of them. Keep writing your books Leslie and thanks
    Wonderful story
Lesley Pearse is one of my favourite authors and this does not disappoint. The characters were well developed and mostly likeable.
I was particularly interested to come across a character that was a Church Army Sister as I used to work for Church Army and I think the character of Sister Constance was a fairly accurate representation of Church Army Officers who are some of the nicest people you will ever meet (and I personally know a lot of them).
I really enjoyed this book it kept me hooked from the very beginning.

    Heartbreaking and Heartwarming
I heard Mrs. Demuth speak at a writer's conference a couple of years ago. Her talk was so inspirational and really spoke to me. I decided then to read one of her books. I saw this one and thought it might be geared more toward women and I guess some would say that. However, I fell in love with her writing style. The characters were so real. I read the book in the matter of a few hours, which is VERY uncommon for me. I just couldn't put it down.
    Hard by good book.
This is a hard book dealing with sexual abuse of a child. I found the first part of the book painful to read. But it does have a happy ending and it kept me very intrigued and interested, as I wanted to figure out the mystery and questions. The author deals sensitively with a difficult subject. Not probably good for those under 13 or 14 as this is a PG 13 subject.
    Touched my heart
I didn't expect to like this book since it has the subject of childhood sexual abuse in it and I tend to shy away from reading about something that awful since it triggers memories of my past, but I found it was actually healing. The author does an excellent job explaining the confusion, guilt, anger, and hurt that goes on in the mind of the child who is experiencing this heinous act of torture. One of the key themes is redemption and God showing that there is a hope and a future. Nothing is lost.
    An Awesome Book!
Read this book in one sitting. Such a beautiful, well written book. I cried through it a lot. I haven't read a book this good in many years. I found myself pausing through out the read & reflecting on God's goodness. I love this style of writing, the theme, the country type setting. Everything. I can't wait to check out more by this Author.
    Loved it
This is a very moving book. Written from the child's perspective brought life to it, the tragedy and the bewildered courage of Mara. There is a great deal of painful cruelty in the story, sadly this reads very realistically, knowing as we do nowadays, how much real life abuse of children there is in this world. The eventual balance of love and compassion shown by Zady and her family also rings true, and I was thankful for the justice that finally prevails. A book that will appeal to the right audience, perhaps mothers, those who have been a bused themselves, and any with a love and compassion for children.

Jade Gentry is a young girl whose past will not control her future even if it cost her everything. Gripping and suspenseful, Jade will leave you sighing when she sighs, running when she runs, and celebrating when she is triumphant!
Meet an odd cast of characters, including kindly Miss Ellen, a superstitious woman who plants corn in front of her living room window, Renée, a peculiar woman who instinctively knows the deep hidden secrets of Jade, and a schoolteacher who begins the process of Polishing Jade.

    BITTERSWEET
"Polishing Jade" was a very sweet and meaningful book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's set in a small farming community in Braxton, Mississippi, population 32. Jade's real name is Clara Marie but her mother called her Jade for her big, dark green gemmy eyes. This story was also a gem. I was impressed by the almost poetic, colorful prose as well as the depth of the characters in contrast to the length of the audiobook.
Whenever she finds herself in a sticky situation with nowhere to go, she turns to Miss Ellen who scoops her right up and takes care of her. Her mom is gone and her dad remarries a selfish woman. With her brother Johnny having moved to Kansas to live with their uncle, she decides to move there also because back home, no one would ever understand her secret.
This is a stunning book that will keep you listening straight through. Written by Tekoa Manning and narrated by Felisha Caldeira, this one goes into my 'favorite' category. I would definitely recommend scooping this one up.
Felisha Caldeira is an Amazing narrator. One of the best I've heard with her southern drawl. Her voice epitomizes Jade and really brings her character to life. Her performance was flawless and I hope to listen to more of her work in the future. The author as well. An outstanding job.
Audiobook received in exchange for an unbiased review.
    Captivating and Inspiring!
Polishing Jade is a compelling story that engages many of the social tensions at work in 1960's America. It invites readers on the difficult but rewarding journey of a young woman faced with seemingly insurmountable circumstances. While emotionally gripping, this narrative inspires hope in the midst of despair and faith in the midst of adversity. I was pleasantly surprised to find how much I related to the situations portrayed by Tekoa Manning. This book will capture your heart, challenge your assumptions, and help you appreciate the polished jade in your own life.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the extraordinary performance of Felisha Caldeira. Her entrancing voice makes the characters of Polishing Jade come to life and her incredible acting will draw you ever deeper into this captivating story. Caldeira has not only helped me hear this book, she has helped me feel it. I am eager to listen to more of her narration in the future.
Recommended to those who enjoy faith-based stories
4.25 Audiobook The Christian Lit. genre isnt something I normally gravitate towards, so I didnt really know what to expect from Polishing Jade. Im glad that I knew it was a faith-based story when beginning it or I would have been rather taken aback at the prominent role religion played in the plot. Its not something heavily featured in most mainstream novels.

Patrick Norris has seen the worst that Afghanistan has to offer - excruciating heat, bitter cold, and death waiting behind every rock as comrades are blown to pieces by bombs and snipers. He returns home exhilarated by his new freedom and eager to realize his dream of a sport fishing business. But he is shocked to learn that the avocado ranch his family has owned for generations in the foothills of San Diego has been destroyed by a massive wildfire and the parents he loves are facing ruin.
Ted Norris worships his brother and yearns for his approval. Gentle by nature, but tormented by strange fixations with a dark undercurrent, Ted is drawn into a circle of violent, criminal misfits. His urgent quest to prove himself threatens to put those he loves in peril.
Patrick puts his own plans on hold to save the familys home and falls in love with Iris, a beautiful and unusual woman, when disaster strikes. When Teds plan for redemption goes terribly wrong, he tries to disappear. Desperate to find his brother and salvage what remains of his family, Patrick must make an agonizing choice.
Three-time Edgar Award-winner T. Jefferson Parker is known for his many best-selling crime novels, from Laguna Heat to The Famous and the Dead. Full Measure marks a departure; it is a literary novel that explores many subjects, among them the bonds of loyalty between brothers.
    Members Reviews:
    Magical Unrealism
What would have made Full Measure better?
    Predictable, self-contradicting, and hollow.
Parker's other books don't abandon the concept of free will--this one largely does. He must have mistaken darkness for relevance. Don't get me wrong, I like dark books (e.g. The Collector, At First Sight), but this book seemed like a classroom writing exercise exploring what it might be like to be an immature, overly sensitive, schizophrenic sociopath.
Here are the key points of the book:
*If you are a good guy and a vet, violence suddenly breaks out all of the time.
*Dads want their sons to take over the family farm and their sons don't want to.
*Fishing takes your mind off of killing people.
*Mentally ill people are supernaturally influenced to evil.
The bottom line is that Parker's other books have an interplay and balance between good and evil, and this book doesn't. It may have been more interesting as a study in what it's like to know someone who latter goes on to make national news for an atrocity.
If you're looking for a TJP book to read, I highly recommend, "The Fallen" which has much more resonance.
Have you listened to any of Jay Snyders other performances before? How does this one compare?
The narrator did a great job.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Dull incredulity. I couldn't believe the author wrote such an incomplete, unsuspenseful book.
    Any additional comments?
The protagonist is basically likable, and in another context, I might have rooted for him, but there was little point as everyone in the book was a victim to circumstance. Parker's writing itself flows and the book is easy to listen to, despite the plot issues. Maybe the author was trying for The Grapes of Wrath, but ended up with the Avocados of Inanity.
    Trite, predictable
    Any additional comments?
I am a fan of most of the authors other works. This one did not grab and as a result did not hold my attention.
