Title: The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper
    Author: Phaedra Patrick
    Narrator: Peter Joyce
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 12 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-07-16

    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Having been married for over 40 years, 69-year-old Arthur Pepper is mourning the loss of his wife. He finally musters the courage to go through her possessions and happens upon a charm bracelet that he has never seen before.
What follows is a surprising adventure that takes Arthur on an epic quest to find out the truth about his wife's life - a journey that leads him to find healing, self-discovery, and love in the most unexpected of places.
    Members Reviews:
A charming delight from start to finish!
Arthur Pepper has been a widower for almost a year. Enveloped in his grievous pain, distanced from his son and daughter, 'empty as an egg without a yolk', he has become imprisoned by his daily routines, watering the pot plant he has named Frederica and trying to avoid Bernadette, the good-hearted neighbour who keeps calling with pies and cakes. That is until he finds a charm bracelet he doesn't recognise as he packs up his wife Miriam's clothes for the charity shop. It's the beginning of a succession of journeys both literal and spiritual.
As he researches each of the charms on the bracelet beginning with the little elephant, Miriam's life before she met Arthur is revealed, a life full of incidents and exotic experiences of which he knew nothing and which initially fill him with hurt. Why did she never tell him? Has their long marriage been a lie? Had he been a disappointment to the wife whom he loved so deeply and who had had such adventures?
The whole is a kind of parable revealed as the story behind each charm brings Arthur closer to learning to reconnect with life once more as he meets people and does things for the first time - things which he could never have imagined possible. Instead of shutting himself away with Frederica, he blossoms as he explores Miriam's early life. His heart heals and opens out and he learns to treasure the happy years Miriam had given him. It's a lovely, uplifting, tender and touching story!
But how lucky is the author Phaedra Patrick having this her first novel read by Peter Joyce! He is one of a handful of the very best audiobook narrators there is. His character voices, accents and phrasing make the listening to all the nuances of emotion in these stories stunningly real - and there is a huge cast of characters for Joyce to bring alive, not just from Arthur's Yorkshire, but from all walks of life and countries including India, Eastern Europe and Australia. Peter Joyce makes this a first class listening experience - a real delight!
    Charming story, so different
This is a charming book, lovely descriptive passages without being
boring. Arthur Pepper is typical of his generation, afraid and not always capable of showing or expressing his feelings after the death of his wife of 40 years. Its his journey through grief and finding his self, but not depressing. Its is thought provoking as well as humorous and the narrator conjures up a picture of a bumbling northern man and his discovery that although life as he knew it is over, a new and exciting one is just beginning,
lovely book and an outstanding performance
It was easy for this book to become a silly, full of clichés read about ups and downs of life, but it's everything but it. It's funny and intelligent and charges the batteries of the reader with a pure optimism.

    Publisher's Summary:
Jacquelyn Mitchard's first novel, The Deep End of the Ocean, launched Oprah's Book Club and riveted millions of readers across the country. Now comes A Theory of Relativity, Mitchard's most compelling and beautifully written novel yet.
At 24, Gordon McKenna thinks he's already heard the worst news of his life when he learns that his sister, Georgia, is fatally ill. Then Georgia and her husband die in a car accident, leaving behind their baby daughter, Keefer. Gordon and his parents are able to survive their sorrow only by devoting themselves to the care of the beloved one-year-old.
But the decision of who will raise Keefer is far from over, and soon Gordon's most basic assumptions about his family will be challenged in ways so provocative that he will be driven to disbelief and then to outrage. The ordeal will test the bonds of this closely knit family, challenging even love's ultimate capacity to heal.
    Performed by Juliette Parker.

    Who Loves Me Best?
Interesting conflict about who can lovingly raise an oprphaned baby, her dead mother's much loved adopted brother or a cousin who is a stranger, but is a blood relative. A new law on adoption even has to be considered.
    Five Stars
very unique "take" on this situation
    Not well written
I found the writing style quiet boring and struggled to get my head around the characters. Idid mot finish the book.

Interesting subject. Interesting ending. Some characters are spot on but others aren't as well developed. Gordon was not believable as a character to me so it was difficult to read the story at times. While the author can spot on nail writing from a woman's point of view, she lacks writing talent from the male point of view.
    Great Read
I purchased this book because I was surprised to have missed something written by Mitchard. I gave it four (instead of five) starts because I don't think it's her best work. However, I always enjoy reading her stories about family dynamics in stressful situations. Mitchard at her next to best is better than most other authors at their very best.

A thrillingly original story of the adventures of a small band of feral cats in Delhi who communicate by whisker mind-link and face an unprecedented threat to their tribe's survival; for listeners of Life of Pi and Philip Pullman.
In the labyrinthine alleys and ruins of Nizamuddin, an old neighbourhood in Delhi, India, lives a small band of cats: Miao, the clan elder, a wise, grave Siamese; Katar, loved by his followers and feared by his enemies; Hulo, the great warrior tom; Beraal, the beautiful queen, swift and deadly when challenged; Southpaw, the kitten whose curiosity can always be counted on to get him into trouble....
Unfettered and wild, these and the other members of the tribe fear no one, go where they will, and do as they please. Until one day a terrified orange-coloured kitten with monsoon-green eyes and remarkable powers lands in their midst - the first in a series of extraordinary events that threatens to annihilate them and everything they hold dear.
The Wildings is a gorgeous evocation of Delhi, a love paean to cats and a rich, often savage tale of survival and conquering one's fears.

    Publisher: Macmillan Audio
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 3 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
At 33, Suzanne Hamilton has no regrets. A successful event planner with a swanky condo in a hot Atlanta neighborhood, she's got a close group of friends and a list of men a mile long who would happily bend over backwards to win her heart. Plus, she's just landed the event that will take her career to the next level.
Then a freak accident changes everything. Humiliated, with her career in tatters, Suzanne's lost her business not to mention her self-respect. She's managed, however, to retain the surprising support of her newest celebrity client: the sexy country music star, Dylan Burke. Against her better judgment, but without any better offers, Suzanne agrees to plan a wedding for one of the Burke sisters. But when she comes to realize her freak accident was anything but, her catalog of past relationships turns into a list of suspects and Suzanne must question everything - her career, her friendships, and most acutely, her own dating rules.
As it turns out, she might have quite a bit to regret after all.
Taking place a few years after the events of The Marriage Pact, M. J. Pullen returns to the same captivating group of lovelorn friends, this time following Suzanne as she discovers that her trusty rules no longer apply. Raising the stakes, Pullen delivers an absorbing, romantic story that shows how someone with a "perfect life" can lose it all - and then find everything.
    Members Reviews:
Couldn't put it down (until the end)
M.J. Pullen is definitely an author who is getting stronger. Whereas I got bogged down a bit in the middle in "The Marriage Pact," I couldn't put "Regrets Only" down. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning reading it, devouring the whole thing in less than 24 hours on a busy work day, sneaking a peak at every opportunity. I couldn't be sure what kind of book I was reading exactly (Was it a mystery or a romance or a slice of life?) and that made it all the more engaging. Like in "The Marriage Pact," Pullen takes a character who I can't relate to at all, and dislike in the beginning, and humanizes (and humbles) her, making me root for her in the end. Suzanne is anything but a "Mary Sue" - she is a strong woman with a strong character -- a high-society event planner with a history of short relationships and mostly superficial friendships. Although I didn't like her, she is a character that many will find compelling (she's a bit too gorgeous and stylish and high heels and lipstick for this bohemian granola reader, although Suzanne does, surprisingly, refer to herself as a feminist at one point). The events of the story make Suzanne ultimately question her rules she's lived by, and come out a more human, and humble, character in the end--one who seeks more depth in her relationships to not just her romantic hero, but to her friends, as well. In the end, Suzanne moves from superficial event planner to, well, pursuing work with meaning and soul. And she gets there in a way where her character growth makes sense. Pullen's strengths are her characterizations--her ability to make you care about everyone from this sharp (in all senses of the word) event planner to the country music star--and her detailed descriptions. You can completely picture the people, places, and events that Pullen describes. Pullen, too, clearly knows how to grow a character.

    Another winner by Mark...
This entire book was a super Audio Book.
The characters were very endearing. You felt the joy you felt your pain.
The reason for the four stars instead of five was because of the narrator's perception of what Sky's Voice would be like. The tone that the narrator used was far too deep and too "Rusty".
That's the only way I can describe his voice.
I hope that Mark uses a different narrator next time.
    Weird cliff-hanger feeling
First, i didnt like the narrators voice for skye - to deep and growling, but i Think its a matter of taste so some May Think its perfect. Second, there is something weird about the story - hinting at skyes abililies being kind of supernatural while Never explaning it. I kept thinking i must have missed that it was a sequal, but that did not Seem to be the case when i looked it up. (I could be wrong - i Seem to remember some comments On this from earlier but couldnt find it again) So there is a lot of unexplaned hints to previous relations/events in this book that irritated me while listening. Either there should have been a previous book or there May be a sequal at some point. I liked the relationship between skye and Colin and that kept me listening. Its not a gay romance Novel - not Any romance at all - just hookups. Since i found it with that seach word, i Think it is misplaced in that section. And you dont get it from the summary, but it is a supernatural story.
    Excellent Story
Very original storyline. Bryant Sullivan is my favorite narrator for Mark Roeder's novels, but the deep voice for Skye seems to alter the tone of Skye's narrative. I hope Bryant Sullivan keeps narrating Roeder's work and they be given opportunity to consult and collaborate on the caracters' voices. Great work!

    Cussler - The Mayan Secrets
    Any additional comments?
In line with much of the Fargo series, this story is very enjoyable. This time the story is centred on a historical document hidden by the Mayans, which would spell disaster should it fall into the wrong hands. Once again their adventures take the Fargo's across the world in search of the answers they seek.
Plenty of action and adventure interlaced with historical mystery and suspense. If you're a fan of the Indiana Jones type genre (albeit with a little more of a puzzle to solve), then you'll enjoy this..
    Good
Another good adventure book by this author. I would like to recommend so if you enjoy adventure give this one a try
    Ok nothing more
Mediocre story, poor portrayal of bad guy. Enjoyable to begin with but felt it lost direction in the second half.
    weak story
expected more from an interesting topic, story line was quite weak. good performance from narrator though
    fantastic
