This episode looks at Proverbs 10:10, “Whoever winks the eye causes trouble, and a babbling fool will come to ruin.” Conscious deceit and ignorant speech both cause harm to others and to self. We pray for help to avoid these pitfalls and for discernment to see them in others.

This episode looks at Proverbs 10:9, “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.” We want to live in such a way that we have nothing to hide. What we say lines up with what we do. What we believe lines up with how we act. Those who twist their ways will have their acts made known under the light of judgment in God’s timing. May God give us grace to live with integrity.

This episode looks at Proverbs 10:8, “The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to ruin.” May God give us grace to listen quickly with humility before his word and before good teachers. May he give us grace to do this before speaking on and on as fools.

This episode looks at Proverbs 10:7, “The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot.” The righteous life blesses those who remember it, and they will also in turn honor the life lived. The memory of wicked person smells worse and worse over time. May God give us grace to live a life worth blessing, and may we honor those who have lived well who have gone before us.

This episode looks at Proverbs 10:6, “Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.” In a working world we would receive honor for righteous living. The wicked do not receive this honor because of their sly, crafty, deceptive speech that covers up their violence. May God cleanse our mouths of such speech and give us discernment and boldness to recognize and call out such speech in others.

This episode looks at Proverbs 10:5, “He who gathers in the summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who brings shame.” Maturity is all about timing. We need to know how to make the right decisions at the right time. We need to know how to harvest well and how to avoid sleeping through the actions we should be taking. May God give us grace.

This episode looks at Proverbs 10:4, “A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” Hard work leads to needs being met (cf. 10:3), whereas laziness leads to poverty. This does not always prove true in a cursed world, so we cry out for God to bring his kingdom to earth. This also should drive us to prayer asking for grace to work hard even when we don’t see the results of this proverb.

This episode looks at Proverbs 10:3, “The LORD does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of the wicked.” We can be forever satisfied in God regardless of our circumstances. The cravings of the wicked will always overpromise and under deliver. May God give us his righteousness to walk in his ways and be satisfied in him.

This episode looks at Proverbs 10:2, “Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death.” Wicked treasures over-promise and under-deliver. They will prove empty on the day we need them. Righteousness, on the other hand, will deliver us from death. May God give us hearts to desire righteousness over wicked treasures.

This episode looks at Proverbs 10:1, “The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother.” This episode looks at two important pieces to understanding Proverbs: 1) This is how a deed-consequence way of wisdom should work in a rightly ordered world. 2) Wisdom is fulfilled in Jesus. Then we ask the question, “Does my life bring joy to my parents?”
