This episode looks at Psalm 14:6, “You want to humiliate the oppressed, even though the LORD is their shelter.” The fool doubles down on his folly by abusing power to attack the oppressed. May it never be with us, and when it comes, may we be reminded to run to the LORD for refuge.

This episode looks at Psalm 14:5, “They are absolutely terrified, for God defends the godly.” This episode reminds us that even God’s enemies fear him in the end. They may deny him, but ultimately that comes out of fear toward him. May God use that fear to draw them to him in repentance.

This episode looks at Psalm 14:4, “All those who behave wickedly do not understand — those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to the LORD.” God’s people should expect hostility and persecution. Even so, God is a shelter for the persecuted who defends the godly and causes us to rejoice.

This episode looks at Psalm 14:3, “Everyone rejects God; they are all morally corrupt. None of them does what is right, not even one.” This verse clearly lays out the doctrine of total depravity. We may not be as bad as we could be, but we are all corrupt in every facet of our humanity. Thank God for his grace to free us from bondage to sin!

This episode looks at Psalm 14:2, “The LORD looks down from heaven at the human race, to see if there is anyone who is wise and seeks God.” We need help from God to seek him rightly. May he grant us that help.

This episode looks at Psalm 14:1, “Fools say to themselves, “There is no God.” They sin and commit evil deeds; non of them does what is right.” The fool denies God, and we need to be careful not to live out of this same heart and mindset.

I plan to take a break until February 1st, when we will jump back in with Psalm 14.

This episode looks at Psalm 13:6, “I will sing praises to the LORD when he vindicates me.” This is not a hypothetical praise. This is a statement of God’s future vindication—a hope that fuels our singing even now before the vindication comes. May we sing praises to God because of who he is, what he has done, and what he will do.

This episode looks at Psalm 13:5, “But I trust in your faithfulness. May I rejoice because of your deliverance.” As the eyes of faith look to who God is—a God of faithfulness—we can move in our hearts from worry to rejoicing.

This episode looks at Psalm 13:4, “Then my enemy will say, “I have defeated him.” Then my foes will rejoice because I am shaken.” David is now less concerned with his enemies defeating him and more concerned with his enemies boasting that they have won. This concern focuses on God’s name being forgotten, and this should be our great and ultimate concern.
