Check out EPISODE 10 of OneNation - A Canadian Soccer Podcast.
This week, Andi Petrillo and Jordan Wilson recap an exciting opening weekend of Canadian Premier League action and welcome Atlético Ottawa star Ollie Bassett to the show.
Plus, a look ahead to the most intriguing clashes in this week's 2023 Canadian Championship opening round, reaction to CanMNT's group drawn for the 2023 Gold Cup, Adriana Leon's move from Manchester United to Portland Thorns, and a review on the do's and don't's of broadcast media.
The 2023 Canadian Premier League season is fast approaching, as eight Canadian clubs across the country begin to compete once more for the title of CPL champion – and the Concacaf Champions League spot it brings – and the end-of-year playoff prize, the North Star Shield.
On this episode of OneNation, Andi Petrillo and Jordan Wilson reflect on the Canadian Men's National Team's first match back since the 2022 FIFA World Cup, recapping a 2-0 win over Curaçao in Concacaf Nations League – and all the key takeaways from that result, including qualifying for the 2023 Gold Cup.
PLUS: We look ahead to CanMNT vs. Honduras at BMO Field in Toronto on Tuesday night, and the qualification implications that remain in front of John Herdman's side – including a potential spot at the 2024 Copa América.
The road to the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup begins this week on OneSoccer, as the Canadian men's national team returns to action for the first time since the 2022 FIFA World Cup, taking on Curacao (March 25) and Honduras (March 28 at BMO Field in Toronto) to round out their 2022 Concacaf Nations League campaign – the path to qualifying for the region's top tournament.
On this week's episode of OneNation, Andi Petrillo and Jordan Wilson break down their key takeaways as Canadian women's national team representatives Christine Sinclair, Janine Beckie, Quinn and Sophie Schmidt took time to speak to the Canadian Heritage Committee, to mixed reaction about the role Members of Parliament played in genuine outreach and support.
Later in the show, 'Trillz and Willz' welcome Nashville SC star Jacob Shaffelburg to the pod, fresh off another week of goal-scoring heroics – good for a nod in the MLS Team of the Week, and to help sink CF Montreal. Jacob talks about being traded from Toronto FC, what it meant to play against the Halifax Wanderers in the Canadian Championship... and what exactly *that* goal celebration was all about over the weekend.
Finally, we round off Episode 5 with a once-around-the-block for Canada's MLS teams.
Alphonso Davies is a massive, generational talent in Canadian soccer – so much so that he's the subject of an upcoming autobiography, "Alphonso Davies: A New Hope" by Farhan Devji. We're joined by Farhan on the latest episode of OneNation to talk about Davies' ever-rising star at Bayern Munich, his humble beginnings in Edmonton, and what the future holds for Canada's superstar.
Welcome back to another episode of OneNation, our Canadian soccer podcast show hosted by Andi Petrillo and Jordan Wilson, where this week, we recap Canadian club performances as the 2023 Major League Soccer season kicks off over the weekend.
The big headline for Toronto FC? On first glance, maybe it'd be giving up a late (late!) goal to lose 3-2 to D.C. United... but the bigger concern is the status of Lorenzo Insigne, who looked distressed as he exited the match with an apparent injury at the half-hour mark. Will he be okay? This team needs him...
Meanwhile, the Vancouver Whitecaps struck first against Real Salt Lake as Vanni Sartini's side enjoyed a strong first half... only to capitulate in the second and concede twice en route to a 2-1 loss. But Vancouver fans will leave this match feeling good about the team's overall look, with fitness and consistency sure to come as the season blooms.
Finally, CF Montreal kicked off their 2023 season with a 2-0 loss to Inter Miami, as new head coach Hernan Losada returned to MLS action - and he wasn't the only new face at the club making his debut, as former CPL star Sean Rea got his first few minutes in Montreal bleu.
This episode of OneNation was filmed ahead of a major news announcement by Canada Soccer. Check back on Feb. 28 for our reaction to Dr. Nick Bontis' resignation as president of the CSA on OneSoccer Today (7PM ET / 4PM PT).
On this week's episode of OneNation, Andi Petrillo and Jordan Wilson go cross-country ahead of the 2023 Major League Soccer season, speaking to CF Montréal analyst and club icon Patrice Bernier, new Toronto FC goalkeeper Sean Johnson, and CPL star turned Vancouver Whitecaps newcomer Karifa Yao as we preview a new campaign. MLS is BACK – enjoy!
