This is the first Pause for Parenting programme for 2023. This programme features and interview with Kerry Skeete and her daughter Kerrisha Skeete who received a National award during the 2022 Independence Parade for assisting an elderly man on a bus who was having a seizure.

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day this year , this programme looks at how patriotic are Barbadians and why some may not show that patriotism as much as they should.

It ask looks at the role of parents in teaching and modeling good citizenship while helping their children to also be citizens of the world. Spoken word artist Adrian Green is the guest and he also shares  how and what he teach his children.

The following programme looks at how parents and guardians can help their child or children achieve success not only in school but in life.

Donna Tull Cox , a counselor, parenting consultant and guidance counselor at Graydon  Sealy Secondary School shares some tips on how parents can be successful in assisting their children to become successful.

In this programme we hear from the father of 4 boys  Patrick Benn what  it mean to him to be a father. He shares the challenges and joys of raising  the boys and what he wants most for them. He also shares how he and his wife work together parenting their children.

Donna Tull Cox , teacher, a counselor, facilitator, a and parenting consultant breaks it down re how and when should parents begin to discuss sex and all that it represent with their children.

She points out that sex education is not a one off conversation but a ongoing discussion that will develops as the child gets older.

This programme is the first in a series highlighting parents as they share their experiences as parents. Alpha Dectivile and her partner Nick Calerderon  are the parents of two children and they share their journey as parents and how the PAREDOS parenting classes helped them.

This is the focus of this week’s Pause  for Parenting.  George Greaves, is a Director and Co/ Founder of Intervention and Support Services aka LISS, LISS provides a number of counseling and psychological which address concerns like anxiety , depression, effective parenting and trauma response. Mr Greaves believes Sibling rivalry should be seen as a good thing.

An interview with the founder of Men Empowerment Network Support, Fabian Sargent. The focus of the interview is on what his organization is doing to help stem  the violence among the young men in our society. Mr Sargent also gave his take on the status of boys and men in our society and how we can begin to bring about change.

Counseling psychologist Akilia Bishop, looks at how adults deal with death, grief and children. Ms Bishop points out what can happen to children when adults don’t take the time to explain what is going on around them. She also explains that we all deal with death differently including children.

This programme looks at how parents and guardians should prepare themselves and their children for transitions.  The Principal of Grazetts  Primary School share some tips on how to get through transitions that their children are sure to go through. This can be the transition from preschool to primary or from primary to secondary school. This programme also looked at what parents should expect with each transition
