Tata Motors today acquired the Jaguar Land Rover businesses from Ford Motor Company for a net consideration of US $2.3 billion, as announced on March 26, in an all-cash transaction. Ford has contributed about the US $600 million to the Jaguar Land Rover pension plans. The Tata Motors team decided to return to New York the same evening and Ratan Tata, then the group chairman, was somber throughout the 90-minute flight, said Pravin Kadle, who was part of the team at that time and now heads Tata Capital.
