In EPISODE 3 of 'ಓತ್ಲಾ in ಕನ್ನಡ,' I dive into the captivating story of Samudra Manthana, the churning of the ocean, and the vibrant celebrations of Ashadha. As the ocean was churned, 14 remarkable treasures emerged, each with its own profound significance. The deadly poison Halahala was the first to appear, threatening the universe until Lord Shiva drank it, turning his throat blue. From this divine event also came Kamadhenu, the wish-fulfilling cow, and Uchhaishravas, the magnificent seven-headed horse. Airavata, the majestic white elephant, emerged next, followed by the serene moon, Chandra. Soma and Varuni, the divine elixir, provided the Devas with immortality. Precious jewels, including the Kaustubha gem, were claimed by Vishnu, while Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, emerged to bless the gods. The Parijatha and Kalpavriksha trees, both symbolizing divine fulfillment, were also revealed. The sacred conch shell, Sankha, and the beautiful celestial nymphs, Apsaras, joined the treasures. Kamadhenu’s calf and Dhanvantari with the pot of amrita completed the divine bounty, ensuring eternal life for the gods. Join me as I explore these treasures and their deeper meanings, unveiling the rich layers of our mythology.
