Kierstin Oliver says her first exposure to guns and gun violence was when she was six. She stumbled across photos of Vietnam war victims in her father's closet.

Portland City Council accepted a public report Wednesday from the Police Bureau detailing its officers' work with the FBI on counter-terrorism. But members of the public - and some council members - expressed doubts about the value of the document itself.

With the help of his wife and artist Kierstin Oliver, Dylan Hereth is creating an art installation that features pieces of guns he dismantled. The couple's plan is to hang the guns as sculpture suspended in teardrop shapes from a gallery ceiling, accompanied by an essay explaining Hereth's decision to destroy his guns. He'd been a gun owner for almost twenty years.

Two environmental groups have announced their opposition to Portland's plan to fluoridate the city water supply. Both the Sierra Club and Columbia Riverkeeper say the health benefits don't outweigh environmental risks.
