We who are strong out to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.

Love Triumphs Over Law

Despite our inborn tendency toward legalism, none of us really wants to live under the Law that God gave to Moses. (I mean, who wants to go without eating lobster?) Paul shows us "a more excellent way" in Romans 13:8-10 – the way of love. But just exactly is the relationship of love to the Law? Doesn't the Law demand more? Or does it? Paul makes a compelling case for the superiority of love, and for what that looks like when we put it into practice.

Given the present state of government and politics in general, most of us might be inclined to answer the questions above with "No one!" That, however, is not God's perspective. Why did God establish governmental authority on the earth? What is its job? What is my job in response to it? Would we all be better off without government at all? Let's look at the Scriptures to help us with answers to these and related questions.
