Many of us have had it backwards. We rush to amusement as though it will fill our souls, and we fear facing grief as though it will destroy us. We honor the beginning of things more than the proven out end to things and people. We see no value in hard seasons and try to create our own carelessly easy seasons. And God gently waits and watches until we are ready to receive the beautiful honest life He has for us. It is never too late to receive it. Solomon again teaches us life-giving truth from his failures.

Ecclesiastes 6: To rest in God's character changes the quality of your life. The ability to say, “This is in front of me. This is now. God loves me and knows how to move me to the “next.” He knows how to protect me in the “here.” So, while I have preferences and visions and dreams of what I’d like to do, I don’t want to miss the “now.” For the now will always be where God lives with me. He does not live with me in the past or the future. Though He knows the future, He does not live there. So, it is better to learn to enjoy where I am, even in a painful season. God lives here with me.”
