In a surprise announcement at a Palo Alto fundraiser, CEO Jeff Bezos of Amazon announced
Calgary, Alberta as the winner of the HQ2 bidding process.
Calgary can expect to see an envied 50,000 new full time jobs - expanding to upwards of 100,000 jobs over the next decade with the city, which has began to recover from a difficult recession to a cautious recovery, now stands to profit greatly from its welcome business environment, highly educated young workforce, available office space, and ideal geographic location.
The win comes as a surprise to the top US cities in the running, but with the highly litigious and unstable political environment south of the border, maybe this should have been expected.
Calgary’s win is said to put ‘confidence back in the province, and that we are a great city to invest in.’ - according to one local business owner.
