A storm rolls from the Mediterranean across Lebanon towards Kadesh, beyond even mighty King David’s control. David is powerless before it. Seven declarations of the Lord’s voice sound through the storm; His words break cedars, shake mountains and expose Baal as a useless rival. Attention turns from human strength and heart-capturing idols to the Creator and King who rules over judgement, life and death. Those found in Christ are saved from final judgement and can rest in the strength and peace He gives His people.

Twelve years of bleeding leave an unnamed woman suffering, isolated and unable to worship with her community. She touches Jesus’ cloak in faith and is immediately healed, but Jesus stops on His urgent journey to bring her into public view. He treats her as equally precious as Jairus’s dying daughter. By calling her daughter and sending her in peace, Jesus restores her to God’s family, not only to physical health. Everyone who trusts Him receives forgiveness and peace, though physical healing may wait for the new creation.

An angry council wants to kill the apostles, but Gamaliel urges its members to wait and see whether their movement survives. His advice contains practical wisdom, yet success does not reliably identify God’s work; faithful work may look fruitless, while evil may prosper. Scripture provides the missing test. Without it, the council avoids facing who Jesus is. Even so, God uses this flawed advice to spare His servants and keep the good news about Jesus spreading.

No purchase can make life easy for long. Writing from prison, Paul grounds rejoicing and gentleness not in better circumstances, but in Christ's finished work and the Lord's nearness. Anxiety and depression do not by themselves prove faith is absent; emotions are good servants, but they must not define truth. God's children can bring every burden to Him with prayer and thanksgiving, trusting His control and presence, and His peace will guard their hearts and minds in Christ.

Their future rests in His hands. Jesus gives eternal life, and He and the Father guarantee that no one can snatch His sheep away.

Life between Jesus’ first and second comings is like a dark night, where temporary pressures can feel more real than God’s promises. Jesus does not give a timetable for His return; He tells His servants to stay awake, keep their lamps burning, and dress for service. The returning Master will judge unfaithfulness, but He promises faithful watchers a place at His table, where He Himself will serve them.

A generous, loving church can still face danger from hypocrisy. Ananias and Sapphira seek Barnabas’s reputation for generosity, but deliberately lie about their property money and die under God’s judgement. Their fate shows that self-centred sin offends God, and hypocrisy can keep others from coming to Jesus. God values a pure church, not merely a large one. Through Jesus’ death, God gives grace to repentant sinners who trust Him, and His Spirit equips them to reject deception and live with integrity.

When hardship hurts, God can seem absent or angry. Hebrews 12 places even painful suffering under a Father's loving care, not His punishment, because Jesus bore that punishment on the cross. God uses discipline to train His children in holiness, though hardship cannot be tied automatically to a particular sin and its exact purpose may remain hidden. Rather than seeking relief alone or giving up, His children can pray, examine their lives, submit to God, and keep running with their eyes on Jesus.

Religious habits can look devoted while hiding a hunger for praise. Jesus warns that generosity, prayer and fasting lose their value before God when people perform them to be seen. The Father sees what happens in secret, knows His children’s needs, and welcomes them to speak to Him as their deeply loving Father. Because Jesus died for sinful people, God forgives those who come in genuine repentance and faith. They can leave hypocrisy behind, forgive others, and live with inward motives matching outward actions.

When the world looks chaotic and hostile, fear can seem like the only honest response. Daniel sees four terrifying kingdoms rise like beasts from a stormy sea and wage war against God's people. Yet God sits in judgement, Jesus receives an everlasting kingdom, and those who trust Him will receive it. The church may look defeated for a time. Because Jesus reigns and will return, His people can stand firm, invite others into His kingdom, and trust that evil will not win.
