Often 1 Cor 3:14-15 is used as Catholic proof text for the doctrine of purgatory. There we read, "If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire." In those passages, both individuals are saved, but the former receives a reward, whereas the latter does not, but rather suffers loss. If, as the Catholic church teaches, the reward is attaining heaven, doesn't that necessarily mean that the latter person, having received no reward and suffering loss, is damned?, and more on today's Open Line Wednesday with Fr.
