Often 1 Cor 3:14-15 is used as Catholic proof text for the doctrine of purgatory. There we read, "If the work that anyone has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire." In those passages, both individuals are saved, but the former receives a reward, whereas the latter does not, but rather suffers loss.
