He signed the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1968, which prohibited racial segregation and discrimination. Johnson's tenure also saw the establishment of Medicare and Medicaid. Furthermore, his domestic policy, known as the "Great Society," aimed to produce economic growth and reduce poverty. However, his foreign policy was overshadowed by the Vietnam War. Some argue that Lyndon B. Johnson and the social welfare policies initiated in the 60s have diabolically harmed black communities, and that the Democrats, by positioning themselves as the “allies” of these communities, have made them more reliant on assistance, thereby undermining their independence and strength.
