Opening Kill

🔪 Season 3 is officially OPEN! 🔪

The Opening Kill Podcast is back and we’re kicking off Season 3 with a deep dive into one of horror’s most iconic nightmares: A Nightmare on Elm Street.

But this season, we’re changing the game.

We’re debuting a brand-new format that puts the spotlight where it belongs: the opening kill. We’ll be digging deeper into the kills that kick off our favorite horror movies, what makes them memorable, how they set the tone, and why that first kill can make or break a movie.

For our Season 3 debut, we’re heading to Elm Street to talk Freddy Krueger, dream logic, and one of the most unforgettable opening kills in horror history

In this week’s episode, we dive headfirst into the absolute chaos that is Malignant, a movie that starts as a creepy haunted-house mystery 👻 and then completely loses its mind (in the best way possible) 🤯🔪. We break down James Wan’s wild tonal shifts, the over-the-top kills 🩸, and that twist that turns the whole movie on its head 😵‍💫.

From eerie visions 👁️ to full-blown police-station mayhem 🚔💥, we talk about what works, what doesn’t, and why this film has become such a polarizing favorite among horror fans 🎭. Is it genius? Is it ridiculous? Honestly… it’s kind of both 😈😂.

If you love your horror weird, bold, and just a little unhinged, this episode is for you 🎙️. Buckle up because Malignant does NOT play by the rules ⚡🧠.

In this special episode, we sit down with director Roger Conners to talk all things horror and his upcoming LGBTQIA+ slasher Meat 🔪

We dig into the creation of the film’s killer, breaking down the design, the vibe, and what makes them stand out in a crowded genre. Roger also shares why authentic representation in horror matters now more than ever, and how Meat aims to carve out space for queer voices in the slasher world.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an indie horror conversation without getting real about the grind. From passion fueled wins to the frustrating hurdles of independent filmmaking, Roger gives us an honest look behind the curtain.

It’s a killer conversation about blood, creativity, and making horror that actually reflects the world we live in. 🩸🎬

Step into the fog-drenched streets of Sleepy Hollow as we dig into Ichabod Crane’s eerie investigation of a string of brutal decapitations haunting a superstitious town. With whispers of the Headless Horseman riding through the night, nothing is quite what it seems and science clashes hard with the supernatural.

We break down the gothic vibes, wild kills, and Tim Burton’s signature creepy style, while debating just how unhinged this mystery really gets.

Joining us for the ride is special guest Courtney from the Jaunty Haunts podcast, bringing her own spooky insights and plenty of laughs along the way.

Is Sleepy Hollow a haunting classic or just a beautifully shot fever dream? Tune in if you dare. 🕯️👻
