Understanding Operating Authority for Your Business
Attention all motor carriers! Important changes have been made to the process for applying for additional authority. Make sure you are up to date on the information you need to know to navigate this process with ease. And be aware, the types of Operating Authority you request will determine the level of insurance required by FMCSA. It is crucial to select only the authority type(s) relevant to your business.
Here are the four types of interstate Operating Authority you need to know:
- Motor Carrier of Property (except Household Goods)
- Motor Carrier of Household Goods (Moving Companies)
- Broker of Property (except Household Goods)
-Broker of Household Goods
For specific filing instructions, read the detailed descriptions provided for each authority type. Please note, first-time applicants must use the Unified Registration System. And if you're a Mexico-domiciled motor carrier looking to operate beyond U.S. commercial zones, use the paper OP-1MX application form. Remember, FMCSA does not offer refunds for application fees. So, ensure you fully understand the authority type(s) you need before filing.
We offer full trucking authority packages to make the launching of your trucking company business go more smoothly. The Department of Transportation regulates safety so doing it right in the begging is very important.
