And the seed of the serpent,
The child of murder most foul,
prepared to speak his heart aloud -
"I do not need to KNOW him!
Whoever this mortal soul might be -
I know I already hate him -
With a perfect enmity."
And we heed also the servant,
The child of the Lord most true,
spoke then also plainly,
an opposing picture drew:
"I also do not need to know him either -
whoever this mortal soul might be -
I know I already love him -
who was made to the image of the Deity."
And the foe stood glaring.
The Saint; serene.
A more perfect opposite
only once to be seen.
In that of our Jesus, gentle,
Facing Satan's cruel eyes,
The moment before our Lords
cruel, sacrificial demise.
But Lo then for the wicked!
Who thought they'd killed the Son -
Who upon His cross defeated sin -
Each and every one.
