Orange Lounge Radio

Ubisoft released information this week that indicated that all of the games Sony said would be compatible on Playstation 5 may not actually be. Although the post was retracted, what is going on to cause this conflicting information to come out? We discuss this issue, as well as the issue of backwards compatibility in the new generation of gaming and just how important it is to us. Do we want our consoles to be able to play the old games, or is this an expectation that has been unfairly set on an industry that often hasn't had backwards compatibility? We discuss all this and more in another week of gaming news!

Tonight we tackle a topic that has effected us all during our pandemic and we talk about mental health. How can video games help us during these times and have a positive impact on our mental health? Conversely, what are things we can do to avoid making bad decisions for our mental health? Our special guest E, a gamer who hosts the podcast Am I Mental? joins us to discuss these questions and much more. We also get into a lot of gaming news for the week including a very interesting partnership between Gamestop and Microsoft. It's another week of news in the video game world, including an old classic, Minecraft, popping up in several places this week. First was the shocking announcement that Minecraft Steve would be added to Super Smash Bros... although not that shocking if you put a lot of stock in rumors, maybe. We also got some updates for the game out of a digital version of MineCon that occured this week. Also in the news this week is a stunning change to confirm and cancel button configurations that could really confuse some people long conditioned to a different standard in Japan. However could accessibility features help make this feature be reverseable? We talk about all this and more on another week of Orange Lounge Radio!

Even with the Tokyo Game Show occuring (virtually) this week, Microsoft manages to make the big headlines with their purchase of ZeniMax (including Bethesda) early in the week. Has Microsoft spent all that money to bring on new Xbox exclusives and try to ensure more sales of Series X vs. PS5? Or could the goal post for this generation of games have moved a bit in Microsoft's eyes with Game Pass and subscription services becoming an emerging trend in gaming? We discuss all this and much more on a busy news week.

We are back after the Labor Day holiday this week to tackle two big gaming developments at the start of the show- first the Mario 35th anniversary Nintendo Direct which features a new Mario 3D All-Stars collection. Do our hosts think this is worth the $60 price of admission? And what is up with the limited time offering of the collection, even digitally? We discuss this, then get into some news out of Microsoft's camp, as leaks forced them to show their hand with Xbox Series S and Series X early. What do we think of what we have seen so far? And what might Sony bring to the table this week? We talk about all this and more on another episode of Orange Lounge Radio!

A company and their public relations company uses a tactic to advertise on many twitch streams that some are calling shady. We talk about what is going on and how it may impact game streamers moving forward in the future. Later in the program, we talk about drop changes coming to twitch which can also have the potential to change streaming, but in a good way as hopefully streams with drops enabled will be less spammy and more productive. We talk about all this, more news, and our gaming weeks on another week of the show where every gamer has a voice!
