Salvation Army Today

Orange Shirt Day

Listen Later

This year, The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda will officially observe Orange Shirt Day on September 30.

Trinity Murphy-Dicker, an Inuk artist from Nunatsiavut and member of the Happy Valley-Goose Bay Corps, designed The Salvation Army’s shirt.

Orange Shirt Day is held annually to spread awareness of Indian residential schools, honor survivors and their families, remember those who died, and share the message that “Every Child Matters.” The Salvation Army's shirt was developed in consultation with the Orange Shirt Society

Commissioners Floyd and Tracey Tidd, territorial leaders, are encouraging every officer, employee, soldier, and friend of The Salvation Army to order orange shirts designed and authorized exclusively for The Salvation Army by an Indigenous Salvationist artist—and wear them on September 30th to show their support.
