  • If You Love… – Part 1 (10/2/24 Bible Class)

Our studies in the Gospel of John have brought us to the last night of Jesus’ life, and the time spent with his disciples mere hours before he was to die on the cross.  Some of the key passages in John 13 and 14 center around love, both our love for one another, the measure of which is demonstrated by Jesus, and our love for the Father and the Son, seen in the keeping of the commandments.

  • The Faith of Abraham – James 2:20-24 (9/29/24 p.m. sermon)

Supplementing our studies of the book of James, this week we consider Abraham’s faith.  Paul explains in Romans 4 that Abraham was justified by faith, but Hebrews 11 and James 2 explain how that faith was put on display so that Abraham’s faith might be counted to him as righteousness.

  • The Law of Liberty – James 2:8-13 (9/22/24 p.m. sermon)

James encourages his readers to “speak and act as those who will be judged by the Law of liberty.”  Much of what James says in his letter centers around what we say and do, and it all centers on the commandments of our Lord.  Though we are set free in Christ, we are set free in order to serve in love and faithfulness.

  • Faith Without Works is Dead – James 2:14-26 (9/22/24 Bible Class)

James harbors no delusions about the relationship between faith and works.  One who says that they have faith, but does not show that faith through their works does not have an active, saving faith. One way of showing such faith is through kindness to others, but also extends in general into how we live every day.

  • The Hour Has Come – Part 4 (9/18/24 Bible Class)

As the Passover approaches, Jesus returns to Bethany where he is received by Mary, Martha, Lazarus, and others.  The next day he rides into Jerusalem on a donkey, in accordance with prophecy, as the Prince of Peace.  Much excitement centers around his coming, except for the Pharisees who are distressed by his popularity.
