The Ninevites heard one day of preaching from a reluctant prophet and responded with a citywide fast, from the king down to the cattle. A relaxed response would have been more reasonable and would have changed nothing. Speaking God's word over a life is a proclamation, and some situations call for the radical version.

Nineveh took three days to cross and Jonah walked one. Partial obedience still produced a revival, and it also cost him whatever the other two days held. Sanctification is not a one-day event. The benefits of pushing through the hard middle of a marriage, a calling, or a habit only show up on day two and three.

The word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, which is the whole point: God gives second chances. What matters is what gets done with one. Posture, patterns, the words we listen to, and what we believe for all have to change, or the second chance produces the same result as the first.

Jonah prayed from inside the fish, and God heard him there. Distress is usually what finally makes a person call out, and God answers anyway. Isaiah 53 says the Messiah had nothing about his appearance to attract anyone. Plenty about this faith looks unappealing at a glance, which is why it is worth a second look.

The Lord provided a fish, which is not what anyone would call a rescue. Provision is easy to see when life is going well and nearly invisible when it is not. God could have sent a boat. He sent what would work. And the person he provided to solve a problem for someone else is usually you.

Jonah's private decision put an entire crew in a storm while he slept below deck. No decision stays personal. Settling for a mediocre life because somebody once said you were not capable still lands on the people around you. Ownership is what Jonah finally took, and it changed what happened to everyone on that boat.

Called to Nineveh, Jonah bought passage to Tarshish, the far edge of the known world, in the exact opposite direction. Nobody actually escapes God's presence, and everybody tries. Jesus is the opposite of Jonah: resilient to the point of death, praying not my will but yours. No excuse holds up against that.

Israel had seen would-be messiahs before, and every one of them stayed dead. The question at the tomb still lands: why look for the living among the dead. Thousands of early manuscripts testify to what happened, more than for any other figure of that era, and the evidence still needs God to make it personal.

They didn't get the deeper cut, they didn't get the Easter eggs right. This is how Scripture is layered: , it's layered full of Easter eggs that when you look at it on the surface, it still benefits you, but there is a deeper cut. So the surface- it helps me understand rejection, but the deeper cut, when I look at these Easter eggs, it helps me understand that Jesus as Savior fulfilled prophecy.

He knows that if they don't sit, stay and watch, there's going to be a negative consequence for the disciples, for him and for the entirety of Christendom. And he wants you to know that God wants you to know how susceptible we are to Temptation and the way to combat that is to pray, Amen, to sit, to stay, to watch and to pray. Amen, this is the worst sales job I've ever done on inviting you into the faith, but I think if you can step in with the right expectation ations, you might actually Sit, Stay, Watch and Pray.
