While the exact situation is unknown, King David had many
moments of stress and difficulty. Though he was a man after God’s
heart, he had family problems, physical problems, occupational
problems, financial problems, and had to run for his life multiple
times (Acts 13:22). Life-problems can lead to eating and sleeping
issues, stress, anxiety, self-harm, or anger at God or others. Feelings
are a poor indicator of our relationship with God. Feelings are real
but they might not be true. While God may feel emotionally distant,
He is always personally present. Biblically, God never ‘goes’
anywhere, it is us that leave God. If you sense relational breakdown
with God, check your heart. If it’s not a sin issue, distance can help
you learn to trust in your faith, not your feelings (Matt. 27:46)!
