In 1 Corinthians 15:35-58 Paul teaches about the truth that those in Christ will be changed by being raised from the dead to new and eternal life. The fact that this change is coming should cause us to respond in how we live our lives today.

Have you ever worked hard for something only to find you were working on the wrong thing and going in the wrong direction? There are so many things that can cause us to veer off course even as we seek to follow Christ together. In the church in Corinth there were a lot of things that they were focusing on and taking pride in, but they were losing their way. Paul tells the Christians in Corinth, "I will show you the most excellent way," and then moves into 1 Corinthians chapter 13 where he emphasizes the absolute importance of love. Every member of an orchestra must watch their conductor in order for the symphony to sound good. If each musician were to simply play at their own speed or change the notes to their liking then the music would sound awful. It is the same way in the church. This sermon looks 1 Corinthians chapter 12. The people in the church in Corinth were focusing on themselves and their displays of spiritual greatness. This was leading to many in the church feeling and being treated as if they were not important. Paul calls them to lift their gaze off of each other and instead calls them to look at Christ because they are His church. Only by keeping our eyes on Christ will we find greater purpose and importance than this world has to offer. Ultimately it is only together under Christ's great salvation and leadership that we demonstrate the beautiful symphony of God's loving grace for the world to see.

We are easily distracted. Sometimes it is on accident, sometimes it is the result of our own poor choices. In 1 Corinthians 11:2-34 Paul challenges the Corinthians about two specific issues that were threatening to distract them from truly worshipping Christ in their church. These were not just distractions that would mean they weren't worshipping well, they were distractions that could mean that they weren't actually worshipping Christ! This sermon looks at this difficult and somewhat confusing passage where we see that we also get easily distracted and need to think about how we prepare our own hearts to worship Christ.

Freedom and rights are things we like to talk about as Americans, but they were important to the people of Corinth as well.
