Today's Passage
Mark 5:6-10 (ESV) - When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!” Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

In this episode, Senior Pastor, Dr. Kurt Bjorklund, continues a series on the Gospel of Mark covering one chapter per week. Today he talks about the miraculous story of Jesus calming the storm.
Today's Passage
Mark 4:35-41 (ESV) - On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

The earth produces by itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. But when the grain is ripe, at once he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

In this episode, Senior Pastor, Dr. Kurt Bjorklund, continues a series on the Gospel of Mark covering one chapter per week. Today he talks about the parable of the lamp under a basket.
Today's Passage
Mark 4:21-25 (ESV) - And he said to them, “Is a lamp brought in to be put under a basket, or under a bed, and not on a stand? For nothing is hidden except to be made manifest; nor is anything secret except to come to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you. For to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”

In this episode, Senior Pastor, Dr. Kurt Bjorklund, continues a series on the Gospel of Mark covering one chapter per week. Today he talks about the reason Jesus speaks in parables and how the Gospel messages itself seems like a parable that can't be understood.
Today's Passage
Mark 4:14-20 (ESV) - And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables, so that “‘they may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not understand, lest they should turn and be forgiven.’”

Join us as we prepare our hearts for the Easter season at Lenten Live! The theme of these teachings is called "Surely You Are" where we will focus each week on a different aspect of who Jesus is and what that means for us who follow him.
This week Dr. Kurt Bjorklund kicks off this series with an Ash Wednesday message looking at the divinity of Jesus. Dr. Steve Jones also provides an examination of what fasting is and why it's an important spiritual discipline.
Key Scripture Passage
Mark 15:33-39 - At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”). When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.” Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said. With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!”

In this episode, Senior Pastor, Dr. Kurt Bjorklund, continues a series on the Gospel of Mark covering one chapter per week. Today he talks about Jesus telling the parable of the sower.
Today's Passage
Mark 4:14-20 (ESV) - The sower sows the word. And these are the ones along the path, where the word is sown: when they hear, Satan immediately comes and takes away the word that is sown in them. And these are the ones sown on rocky ground: the ones who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy. And they have no root in themselves, but endure for a while; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away. And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. But those that were sown on the good soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirtyfold and sixtyfold and a hundredfold.

In this episode, Campus Pastor, Dan Irvin, continues a series on the Gospel of Mark covering one chapter per week. Today he talks about how the people Jesus was teaching didn't understand what he was saying which caused them to think He was of Satan.
Today's Passage
Mark 3:20-30 (ESV) - Then he went home, and the crowd gathered again, so that they could not even eat. And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, “He is out of his mind.” And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.” And he called them to him and said to them in parables, “How can Satan cast out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand. And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. But no one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house. “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin” — for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”
