After a busy two weeks the Gear Fix Duo are back in Tim's garage to talk about some fun experiences and lots of new gear. The Gear Fix Duo has been busy as the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2012 wraps up. Mike and Tim briefly highlight some of the new gear that was on display at this summer's OR show and give their impressions on the show. Also discussed on this week's episode is Great Britain's domination of the cycling world and a little follow up with Black Diamond CEO Peter Metcalf.
Gear Fix returns to Mike's 1890 two story home, this time with a new set of wind chimes. On episode 32 of Gear Fix Mike and Tim discuss the results from the Tour de France, awesome new bikes that Scott recently announced and the awkwardness of loaning or not loaning gear to friends. Summer is in full swing and in case you haven't noticed, it's a hot one. The outdoor sports world is full of news for episode 30. The episode starts with a quick trip report from Mike B's recent river trip and then the Duo dives right into the news. Lance Armstrong has been accused of doping by the USADA, Mike and Tim discuss the allegations and give their own personal thoughts on the recent charges. Aaron Gwin dominates the mountain bike downhill scene, Black Diamond buys POC and Alex Honnold continues to blow our minds. Looking to buy a used bike? The Gear Fix Duo wraps things up by going over some great suggestions for buying a used bike.
Episode 29 is all about water, bikes and big mountains. Mike goes into detail about his water storage system that collects rain water from his roof. The duo then get into some bike talk going over the new Sram XX1 gruppo and 650b bikes vs. 29 inch bikes. If you're a parent who's thinking about getting your child a balance bike Tim and Mike debate at what age you should be starting them riding. The conversation then moves to the mountains. Mt. Everest continues to be deadly but many expeditions press on for the summit. Given the opportunity, would you still be interested in attempting Everest?
