  • #62 Kelly Matthew - Healthy Habits that Last: Anchored in Identity, Moved by Momentum

Imagine the best version of yourself... what healthy habits would it take to get you there? In this episode, Kelly Matthew, Manager of Corporate Wellness at Orlando Health, outlines a sustainable approach to building healthy habits. She'll help you unpack the obstacles that often prevent success, explore the deeper meaning behind the habits you wish to start, and create long-lasting behaviors centered around the identity you want to achieve.

    Guiding Questions:

Use the following questions (curated by Kelly) to guide your reflection, journaling, or conversations:

    1. Complete this sentence, out loud or on paper: 'I am someone who ___.' What comes out first, before you edit it?
    2. Who is the type of person that could get the outcome you want — and what would that person believe about themselves?
    3. Whose habits do you admire, and what is it about who they are, not what they do, that you're actually drawn to?
    4. What matters to you about your health? Not what you think should matter, but what actually honestly matters to you?
    5. If no one else would ever know - no praise, no recognition - would you still want this for yourself? Why?
    6. Picture your healthiest, most consistent self... one year from now. What does an ordinary Tuesday look like for that person, start to finish?
    7. When you imagine your new identity fully (e.g. someone who moves their body, someone who eats with intention, etc.), does it feel like becoming someone new, or like coming back to someone you used to be?

If you were to do this “calendar audit” for yourself, what trends would you notice?  What small changes can you make in your daily routine so that your time and energy better align with your values?
    3. For your mental bucket, what are some ways you can engage your mind? How can you balance mental activity and mental rest?
    4. Journaling is a habit that can help you capture moments, reflect, notice patterns, and provide perspective. How could this practice enhance your life if you took intentional time to slow down and journal for 5 minutes each day?
