Don't go gently into that hard day's night. Ooof guys... Mari and Jeff dived into the Lord of the Rings world this week and disclaimer to LOTR fanatics: they don't know what they're talking about. They discuss the record-shattering, extremely long, 2003 Best Picture winning film that is Lord of the Rings: Return of the King & the massive impact its had on cult-following, huge budget cinema - and shockingly, they really liked it... They also chat about Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, For Your Consideration campaigns (lookin at you, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel...), the next season of 13 Reasons Why, and the most important piece of cinematography ever created - Babe 2: Pig in the City.

So much content, not enough time. Mari and Jeff catch up on their moves to Chi-town and what they've been consuming - the Little Women trailer, niche animation television, and how Mari is paying to vote in the Independent Spirit Awards... They also watched the 2004 film Million Dollar Baby this week and the CRAZY training Hillary Swank must have had to box like that. Mari and Jeff have JAZZ FEVER on this week's episode - they chat about musical improv, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, their favorite movie theater in Chicago, if Mari could handle Chernobyl or not, Pose, and what's currently premiering at the Venice International Film Festival. They also chat about one of the most controversial Oscar Best Picture Winners of all time, 2004's Crash, and how the film doesn't discuss anything new or important about race. Mari and Jeff determine that the movie plot is like if the New Year's Eve/Valentine's Day movies were infused with racism and car crashes.

Mari moved to Chicago and Jeff is right behind her, so Oscar Buzzkills is BIGGER and BETTER (just in a different Midwestern city). On this week's episode, they chat about the list of movies premiering at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) and which ones they are most excited for - basically, they chat TRUE Oscar buzz and do the pod name proud. Mari and Jeff also break down the 2006 "boys club" film, The Departed, and how Scorsese can do no wrong.

Emmy Award nominations are out and it's basically like Mari and Jeff were the only ones voting this year, because they are in LOVE WITH THIS LIST and you should be, too. They break down who they want to win and who they think will actually win in each of the top categories and reveal that they watch WAY TOO MUCH TELEVISION! (P.S. Three cheers to the true American hero, Kathryn Bigelow, for being the first and only female director to win an Oscar!!
