There is a lot about the end of life that I didn’t know anything about. Carlos and I got connected because he serves Veterans with the hospice program he runs for Frederick Health Hospice. I was very interested to learn more.
Carlos joined the Army where he was a Radio Operator and deployed to Grenada. After serving, he worked in the healthcare field and then transitioned to hospice care.
The Veterans Health Hospice Program was created by Carlos to help Veterans get end-of-life care in a way that dignified their service during the end of life.
Go to https://www.frederickhealthhospice.org/Services/Veterans-Program.aspx to learn more about the services Carlos oversees for Veterans.
Thank you for coming on and talking with me Carlos, I believe we all learned a lot about an important life topic.
I was in a thread about family advocacy for Veterans when someone asked about the Columbia University Family Flex Study. A family study about Veterans' families? I had to find out more. I reached out to the Family Flex Study and was introduced to Rohini Bragrodia.
Rohini is part of a 25-person team under the guidance of Dr. George Bonanno, of Columbia University doing the Family Flex Study. The Family Flex Study looks to gather data about the resiliency within Veterans’ families as they have gone through difficult times.
Working with these families, she has gained a new respect and appreciation for the sacrifices both the Veterans and their families have made in order to serve.
You can look up the Columbia Family Flex Study to find out more. If you meet the requirements, please consider participating. Links below:
Thank you, Rohini, for talking with me, I am looking forward to the results of this study.

Gina Alderman has come on Oscar Mike Radio as an author. She wrote in Veterans Unchained Anthology and put together Veterans Unchained 2.0.
This time she is talking with me about her Rugged Warrior Healing Coalition Retreat. Gina talked about how the retreat went from an idea to reality. One of the interesting parts of the conversation is how other female Veterans came together to work with her as co-facilitators in their area of expertise. Instead of listening to class lectures, female Veterans will leave the retreat with something that they have made and experienced. It is Gina’s hope that these experiences will allow other female Veterans to connect and grow. The Crystal Blue Lagoon is a perfect setting for these female Veterans to come together and renew themselves emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
On behalf of Gina Alderman, and the co-facilitators who are all Veterans, we would like to extend our sincerest thanks to Lynn who provided Crystal Blue Lagoon Bed and Breakfast as the site for the retreat.
Go to https://www.crystalbluelagoonbb.com/ to learn about this amazing place to see one of nature’s wonders up close.
Thank you, Gina, for talking with me and your support and mentorship.

“I have never done anything like this on Oscar Mike Radio.” This thought was going through my mind as I started talking with U.S. Army Veteran Inez Moutarde. Except we weren’t talking, we were breathing, but not just any kind of breathing. We were doing Quantum Flow, and at the Rugged Warrior Healing Coalition Retreat, Inez was going to be teaching this to the attendees.
Quantum Flow is a practice to recharge your “energy” and by doing so use energy to do amazing things. This is done by a special breathing technique that helps one align their energy with their outlook. It was interesting to learn how Inez, who was a Civil Affairs Specialist in the Army, used Quantum Flow to change her life. As a teacher of the practice, she is looking to show the women who attend the Rugged Warrior Healing Coalition Retreat that they can harness their own energy to change their lives. I certainly came away with an appreciation for the practice during the show. It will be amazing to see how Inez’s session helps other female Veterans.
You can reach out to Inez for Quantum Flow Training on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/flow_and_vibe_/
Thank you, Inez, for sharing your teachings with me on Oscar Mike Radio.

Healing can take many forms, and after working with Stephanie through the Veteran Unchained Anthologies, Gina Alderman asked Stephanie to lead a jewelry-making session for the Rugged Warrior Healing Coalition Retreat. Making jewelry has helped Stephanie heal from past trauma.
Stephanie served in the Army Reserves. She separated due to MST (Military Sexual Trauma) and after separation found that working with her hands creating beauty helped her deal with the past. As well as making jewelry, Stephanie is currently studying to become an ordained minister. She hopes to use her ministry as an outreach to other women who have survived sexual trauma.
You can connect with Stephanie through the Veterans Unchained Anthology and LinkedIn. See the links below. Thank you, Stephanie, for talking with me!

One part of the retreat that Gina Alderman wanted to focus on is the mind and body working together. To do that, Gina connected with Juanita Terry who participated in the “Veterans” Unchained Anthology. The anthology is how Gina and Juanita got connected, and their friendship grew.
Juanita served in the Army working in aviation and then military police. After getting out of the military, Juanita found a sense of peace and purpose in doing martial arts. She began to study under Sensei Ken Wentz. He is a seventh-degree Black Belt, with almost 50 years of Martial Arts experience.
Juanita will be teaching about situational awareness and how to have a security mindset at the retreat.

The first thing one notices is the smile. It is genuine, yet inquisitive. The kind of smile that puts you at ease. Unusual for me, but I was a bit uneasy. Dr. Ki Magee was one of Gina Alderman’s long-time military friends. I wanted to be sure everything went well as we talked about the Rugged Warrior Healing Coalition Retreat starting on Thursday, May 18th, 2023.
As it turns out, my concerns were unfounded as we began to talk.
Dr. Magee enlisted in the Navy and then became an officer in the Medical Service Corps. Along the way, she met people who invested in her, including Gina Alderman, and she never stopped going after her goals. Her Navy career has had a lasting positive influence on her life. Getting out of the Navy, Ki never stopped looking at ways to gain knowledge and understanding and then share that through coaching.
At the Rugged Warrior Healing Coalition Retreat, Dr. Magee is a co-facilitator that will be coaching and supporting Gina. I appreciated how Gina’s investment in Ki has now come full circle.

Curtis Rutledge served in the Army for 12 years and was medically retired. He tried different things and then got into welding and metalwork because he loves cars. Out of his love for cars, Curtis started Project Shft 6. Project Shift 6 is located in Bakersfield, CA.
This is a place where Veterans can work with Curtis and his team to learn the basics of mechanics and welding and can develop their skills for a career in the automotive industry . Go to https://www.theshift6.org/ to learn more about Project Shift 6. Thank you Curis for talking with me, I will try welding with you soon!
