Presence” from John 14:15–27. Jesus promised that His followers would never
be left alone—He would send the Holy Spirit, our Helper, Comforter, and
Advocate, the One who comes alongside us and dwells within us. God’s
presence is not simply something to understand intellectually; it is
something we are called to recognize and respond to. Throughout Scripture,
people responded differently when confronted with the presence of God—some
moved toward Him with worship and surrender, while others ignored,
resisted, or withdrew. The same choice remains before us today. When the
Holy Spirit makes His presence known, our response should be to move toward
Him, yield our lives to Him, and welcome His work within us. As we learn to
recognize and respond to the Holy Spirit, our walk with Christ becomes
deeper and more fulfilling, because in His presence there is fullness of
joy.

42:1–8. God is always calling us deeper—to move beyond the safety of the
harbor and into a life of greater trust, dependence, and spiritual
maturity. Too often, we stay moored to what is familiar because comfort
feels safer than surrender, but God cares more about our transformation
than our comfort. The deep need within our souls can only be met by the
deeper riches, wisdom, love, and presence of God. Sometimes those deep
waters bring correction, and sometimes they bring growth, but in both, God
is drawing us closer to Himself. If we are unwilling to cut the moorings,
we may never discover how much more there is of Him. The invitation is
clear: cut the moors, set sail, and go deeper with God.

This Sunday’s message, “Choosing the Better,” comes from Luke 10:38–42 and
the story of Mary and Martha. Martha was busy serving, but she became
distracted, anxious, and concerned with what others were doing, while Mary
chose to sit at the feet of Jesus. The same struggle still confronts us
today: distractions, expectations, and the pressure to manage everything
can slowly pull our attention away from Christ. Jesus reminds us that one
thing is necessary—to choose the better portion by remaining close to Him.
Our weakness is not a disadvantage when it leads us to greater dependence
on God; in fact, dependence is exactly where His strength is revealed.
Instead of trying to control the room, carry every burden, or live for the
approval of others, we are called to sit at Jesus’ feet, trust Him, and
choose a life of devotion over distraction.

already paid the full price for our redemption. We must never confuse the

condemnation, which drives us away.

brokenhearted, hears us when we call, and is our help and deliverer. When
life leaves us weak, we can stand secure in this truth: His joy over us is
our strength.

called to clothe ourselves with Christ, be continually filled with the Holy
Spirit, and keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our
faith. True freedom is found in remaining spiritually awake, steadfast, and
