If we all speak the same language, communication will be much faster and without any delays or misunderstandings. OT systems, however, are like islands, each with their own languages, because they have been developed separately over decades. Thus, it is difficult to connect them all together. In this episode, we invite Jack Lin, Moxa's industrial networking expert who has extensive experience in seamlessly connecting industrial machines, to share with us how to achieve the transformation of OT systems through next-generation industrial Ethernet.
The Content of This Episode
(00:00) Industrial Ethernet no longer meets the needs of Industry 4.0. Why?
(02:38) How to seamlessly connect devices and systems
(08:07) A use case of time-sensitive networking (TSN)
(13:40) What are the next steps for OT data?
Guest Profile:
Jack Lin is a product manager in the industrial networking infrastructure team and is also the project lead for Moxa’s global TSN initiative project. In recent years, he has been committed to promoting the implementation and ecosystem development of advanced industrial Ethernet technology in Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet. Jack also represents Moxa in several industrial automation associations as well as groups that define standards, including IEEE 802.1 TSN Task Group, OPC Foundation, CLPA, EtherCAT Technology Group. He also led the team to participate in IIC TSN testbed, ECC TSN testbed, LNI 4.0 TSN testbed, and other international TSN test platforms.

An IIoT gateway is like a mobile phone. Through it, OT devices can transmit data to IT. However, most IIoT gateways are installed at remote sites, making it difficult to manage them. In this episode, we invite Moxa's device life-cycle management expert, Charles Chen, to share with us on how to effectively manage a large number of IIoT gateways to ensure their operation.
The Content of This Episode
(00:00) How to effectively manage IIoT gateways?
(05:03) How automatic authentication can avoid security issues.
(07:26) How to avoid network disconnection during a remote update.
(10:06) How to quickly replace old products with new ones
(12:38) What are the next steps for OT data?
Guest Profile:
Charles Chen graduated from the University of Arizona with a master's degree in management information systems. Prior to joining Moxa, Charles had been a product manager in the consumer products industry. After joining Moxa in 2010, he focused on product development in the industrial control field. In the past three years, he has switched to the IIoT industry and has cooperated with world-renowned companies to develop digital transformation solutions. He has extensive practical experience in OT data to cloud and device life-cycle management.

When fluctuating renewable energy becomes our major energy resource, how will we be able to leverage real-time OT data to help us maintain grid resilience and avoid a sudden drop in power generation due to a dark cloud? In this episode, we invite Jerry Fang, an expert with a lot of experience in the power industry, to share with us how customers can achieve energy transition through real-time OT data.
The Content of This Episode
(00:00) What is the energy transition?
(02:01) Energy transition needs communications support. Why?
(09:49) How is energy transition affecting traditional operations?
(16:22) What are the next steps for OT data in the power industry?
Guest Profile:
Jerry Fang is responsible for Taiwan Power’s key accounts at Moxa. Since 2015, he has assisted his customers, such as Taipower, CHEM, and Tatung, to complete feeder automation, high-voltage AMI communication architecture design, IEC61850 substation communication architecture design, and renewable gateway design. Because of his experience in the field of power systems and energy communications, Jerry was invited as an IEC61850 lecturer at Taipower.

OT’s security protocol rarely takes IT’s priorities into consideration. This is why a lot of OT communication protocols are not originally designed with encryptions or authentications. But in the era of industrial digital transformation, can OT data still afford to run around naked in an environment teeming with hackers and viruses? In this episode, we invite Jesse Ku, Moxa’s cybersecurity consultant, to share his insights with you.
The Content of This Episode
(00:00) Why OT and IT have different views on data security
(07:27) If you want to start OT security, what is the biggest challenge?
(13:06) How to start transforming your OT cybersecurity
(17:50) What is the next frontier for OT cybersecurity?
Guest Profile:
Jesse Ku is a cybersecurity consultant at Moxa. He has extensive experience in OT and ICS security, having worked with both public and private sectors, which include critical infrastructure, utilities, and manufacturing. Focusing on IT/OT cybersecurity and cyberthreat trends, Jesse and his team have been helping customers worldwide to develop the best possible solutions to counter the rising tide of cyberattacks and to enhance industrial cybersecurity. As the host of Moxa Security Talks, Jesse often exchanges and shares ideas with other cybersecurity experts in the field. He is a certified professional in the fields of ethical hacking (CEH), computer forensics (CHFI), security management (SSCP), and OT cybersecurity (IEC/ISA 62443 Cybersecurity Fundamental Specialist).
